What does it mean to truly follow Jesus? In this 6-week series, Disciple, we will explore what it means to be a disciple of Christ—not just in word but in life. The angel’s announcement to the shepherds was one of great joy—a Savior had been born for all people. Luke 2:8-11 reminds us that the joy of the Advent season isn’t rooted in our circumstances but in the Good News of Jesus. This Sunday, come and rejoice as we celebrate the Advent of Joy, a gift given to us through the birth of Christ, our Savior.

The Advent season reveals the greatest expression of God’s love—sending His Son to save us. In 1 John 4:9-10, we see how God’s love is made manifest through Jesus, calling us to experience and share that love. Missionaries sell everything they own, move to Cameroon, learn a new language, and eat odd foods. Alternatively, Missionaries root themselves in their hometowns, pray audaciously, build relationships with others in the routines of daily life, and regularly initiate gospel conversations with those who don’t yet follow Jesus. Until God calls you to the former, only one good choice remains.

In John 16, Jesus teaches how the Holy Spirit lays a foundation in our souls that undergirds all further moral convictions: the Spirit convinces us of our sin, of Christ's perfect righteousness, and of divine judgment awaiting those who remain outside of Christ.
