Kids EN ↓ 167 episodes

We come to parenting with all the patterns we learned in our own childhood. Together in this podcast, we uncover the roots of our reactivity and grow in education, capacity, awareness, and skills so we will be able to respond vs. react to our strong-willed children. The beauty of this process is as you become a ResponseAble Parent, the "misbehavior" of your children will lessen, the yelling will fall away and a new level of companionship and cooperation will take its place. Welcome to the journey of ResponseAble Parenting. Take a deep breath in, slow exhale out, and let's get to work.

92. This ONE thing will improve your 1:1 time with your SWK 05.05.2025

In this episode I specifically address the challenges that PLAY can bring to parents of strong-willed kids (SWK) or our neurodivergent kids. I share the differences I experience with my children and a "hack" that is allowing me to dial in and be more strategic with my ADHD / strong-willed kid. This has been helping us so much and I really hope you use it too! Don't forget to grab my PLAY WEBINAR (...

91. Are you setting yourself up for failure or success with your kid? 28.04.2025

Unconsciously we are setting ourselves up for failure over and over again with our kids. We head into each and every interaction with stored emotions in our bodies telling us whether or not we should be guarded or open.  In this episode I share the foundational step to shift this pattern in our bodies. How you can instantly increase your tolerance level and support yourself to a better outcome.  A...

90. Is Empathy Weakness? 21.04.2025

In this episode I address whether or not I believe empathy is a sign of weakness. Or "weak parenting."  Elon Musk has been in the news saying "the fundamental weakness of western civilization is Empathy." However I think it's one of the biggest strengths for humanity. When we can SEE each other, when we can seek to understand each other we are in fact stronger. Both personally and as a nation.  I...

89. 5 Reasons Why Gentle Parenting ISN'T Working For You 14.04.2025

In this episode I share the 5 reasons I see that gentle parenting isn't working for you. These are what I'm seeing across comments, questions I get asked weekly, my client's perspectives and community members.  And I want to acknowledge that it's hard to transition from one parenting style to another. Especially one that forces us to look at our own stuff vs. focus on our children's behavior.  I h...

88. Understanding your child's brain-based differences 07.04.2025

This episode is a wonderful conversation discussing how we as parents can shift our focus, our reactivity and the lens in which we view our children with brain-based differences. You get to hear from expert Eileen Devine on how she approaches parenting frustrating behaviors from a skill deficiency lens vs an intentional defiant lens. I hope you enjoy this conversation and feel hopeful in how we ca...

87. IG Question - My Toddler is Using His Weight Against Me! 31.03.2025

This episode answers a question I got over on Instagram. If you don't follow me there please connect at @ ResponseABLEparenting  This parent was really struggling with their toddler falling on the ground and using their weight against them in the middle of a tantrum. We've all been there, when we say no to something and our toddler all the sudden goes completely dead weight and falls to the ground...

86. Listening the first time. Is that even possible? 24.03.2025

In this episode I share the 3D's to ensure your best possible outcome for your child to listen to you! Listening (or lack there of) can be one of the most triggering scenarios for us as parents. This episode will help you see the big picture and give you some tools to help develop the skill of listening. Also don't miss out on my FREE Webinar where I teach you how to use PLAY to solve recurring ba...

85. Parenting with Grief 17.03.2025

This is a very special episode! I am taking part in the Podcasthon Non-Profit Initiative where over 1500 podcasters are bringing awareness to a charity and organization that means something to them.  I am honoring the Madd Ox Foundation. It's a foundation to bring awareness to stillbirths as well as provide resources to families (especially mothers) who have recently experienced a stillbirth.  htt...

84. When things don't go according to plan 10.03.2025

Ever been there when things are going pretty smoothly and then one thing derails you and all the sudden you find yourself reacting as if all hell broke loose? Do you beat yourself up over your reaction? Spend the rest of the day ruminating on how you failed and why you can't seem to just stay calm?  I've been there. I really have. So so many times. In this episode I share some tools to really supp...

83. Realistically what this work looks like 03.03.2025

It's easy to think that everyone else has it figured out as a parent. That you are the only one failing and have totally messed up your kid. That every time you yell or threaten you have to go back to the drawing board and start completely over.  In this episode I share a rough moment with my son. I share how I fell back into old patterns and how I totally forgot to use every skill at my fingertip...

82. Stop looking to your kids to validate your parenting 24.02.2025

In this week's episode I share a subtle thing I've noticed across all the parents I work with. A little hiccup that keeps us stuck, that keeps us in a frustrated power loop and draws us back into conflict with our kids.  It's this longing and almost expectation that our kids are going to validate our hard work as parents. We've done so much work, we're putting in a tremendous amount of effort and...

81. How curiosity builds respect 17.02.2025

I get a lot of haters in my comments. And while that comes with the territory and seems to be the cultural norm these days, I have to believe we can speak to each other differently. And while I'm not a saint, and clap back at times, I do try to practice what I preach. And that is to get curious as to why the person is saying what they're saying. You'll see me write "I'm curious…" to start many of...

80. Mama Trauma 10.02.2025

First off, shout out to you mama for tackling cycle breaking and doing the work. This is NOT easy stuff and I am here to cheer you on.  I think it's very easy to point the finger to our parents (especially our moms) and say "because of the way she modeled things I am 'x'" or "the way she did this messed me up." YES all of that is your experience and 100% valid. I am not taking that away from you....

79. How do I "fix" this?! 03.02.2025

You are right to notice that there are a million scary things flying at you at all times right now. And you are right to want to fix these immediately in order to not feel so uncomfortable and in order to keep you and your family safe.  But we cannot be effective if we are reacting every minute to fear.  In this episode I share how we can create a safe place internally so we can be effective exter...

78. The OTHER "F" Word…Friends 27.01.2025

This episode explores friendships. My son had a run in with his "best friend" and he was essentially told "you're not my friend." So wounded and so confused he felt blindsided by this. He admires this kid so much and truthfully this kid is awesome. I totally get why my son wants to be his bestie. But this kid already has a bestie who loves all the same things he loves, is lock step with this kid a...

77. Parenting with External Stress 20.01.2025

This is possibly the most important episode I've ever made. After experiencing the unrelenting stress of fires, arsonists, hurricane force winds + fire was almost too much for the human body to bear witness too. Most everyone in LA right now is walking around as a zombie. We are in "low power mode" and from what I've heard from almost everyone, "we're just putting one foot in front of the other."...

76. My son's passing - and the lessons I continue to learn 13.01.2025

Trigger Warning. This episode is about my son who was stillborn in 2019. I share a few moments that I experienced in the hospital. If you have lost a child, experienced a stillbirth or miscarriage, please be gentle in your listening. My hope is that you find comfort in my story, that you are not alone. And that we can continue to heal together. My son Jackson would have been 6 years old this year....

75. What I learned from my son knocking out his teeth 06.01.2025

In this episode, I share a personal story about my four-year-old son's traumatic accident during a holiday recital rehearsal, where he severely injured several teeth. I reflect on his resilience, the lessons we've learned, and the importance of connection, asking for help, grounding tools, and letting go of control as a parent. Let's talk about navigating trauma, finding joy in adversity, and resp...

74. The Stories We Tell Ourselves 30.12.2024

In this week's episode I share why it's so easy for us to hop back into our "roles" inside our families when we see each other for the holidays. Even if we've done SO MUCH WORK we still find ourselves falling back into these roles.  We do the same thing in our immediate families when we get stuck in the same loops and patterns.  I hope to bring some insights, some new perspectives and some skills...

72. One of THE hardest cycles to break 16.12.2024

I didn't think I'd share this personal story from my Thanksgiving break but I felt like it really hit home for me on my journey of parenting as well as self discovery. So I invite you to take a listen, and possibly see yourself in my story.  We are so deeply intertwined with all of our "shoulds" that we've lost a large part of ourselves. My goal in everything I do as a coach is to help us figure o...

71. Were You Allowed to be Messy? 09.12.2024

You're catching me days after the Thanksgiving break here in the states. And not even 24 hours after my youngest fell and busted out most if not all of his front teeth. I'm a little shell shocked but learning a big lesson. The lesson being, I was never allowed to be messy. And so that's why parenting feels so hard because IT'S ONLY MESS!  This is a heart felt, loving, accepting message to all the...

70. Go From Surviving the Holidays to THRIVING in the Holidays 02.12.2024

I love the holidays, but let's be honest, they are filled with challenges. Tricky family dynamics, expectations not being met, routines being off, more sugar, alcohol, etc. It can leave us feeling drained, resentful and frustrated.  In this episode you'll get a 4 step framework from Marshall Rosenberg, the father of Non-Violent Communication. It's THE MOST effective strategy for those tricky situa...
