Reelin' In The Years (RITY)

When you combine the visual elements of 70's Glam Rock (David Bowie, T. Rex) with heavy metal theatrical bands (Alice Cooper, KISS), you get Hair Metal. On this episode of RITY, we travel back to the 80s when Hair Metal reached its peak of popularity.

This week on the program, I'm highlighting songs that were recorded at Abbey Road Studios. The iconic recording space opened in 1831 as a five bedroom townhouse. It didn't become a studio until nearly 100 years later when The Gramophone Company purchased the property in 1929.

This week, our theme is the soundtrack of the 1973 George Lucas film, American Graffiti, which is set in Modesto, California, in 1962. The film is a study of the cruising and early rock 'n' roll cultures. In addition to the music, there are several interesting song facts and soundbites from a few of the artists. Plus, a brief tribute to Don Everly and Charlie Watts.

We recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the launch of MTV on August 1st. On this episode, we look back at the first 28 songs to be played on the station. Plus, soundbites from Phil Collins and Don Barnes (.38 Special).
