Proverbs isn't a book of hard and fast rules, it's loving counsel from Jesus to a people prone to choose folly and train wreck. While the world says "live and learn" through Proverbs, God is saying "learn and live." In this first week we looked at two houses with the same invitation but offering two completely different things. Which are you choosing to take up residence in, wisdom or folly?

Jesus is calling followers, not fans. It's not enough just to know about Jesus; a true disciple's relationship with their savior is deeply intimate. When we come to know Jesus and begin growing in Him, our desires change, and our appetite for the things of God increase. So, are you fan, or a follower? (07-03-16)

Questions are important. They can help reveal our true heart, our motives, our understanding. Questions are used in powerful ways and can go deeper than we realize. Peter claimed to be a faithful follower no matter what but then denied Jesus and fled; now Jesus has some important questions for Peter and important questions for us when it comes to be a faithful follower, as John records these final...

Sometimes our life, our circumstances, our faith can seem out of balance, upside down, or we just feel lost. And at these times we need to be reminded of what's true and what's not; but reminded in a gracious, loving, compassionate way by someone who truly cares. That's exactly what we see in this passage as Jesus interacts with His disciples post resurrection for the third time. (06-19-16)

Jesus has appeared to the disciples but Thomas was't there to witness it first hand. He refuses to believe unless he can see it for himself. When it comes to faith we often put a heavier emphasis on the quantity than the object. So we ask the question, not only do we have faith, but is our faith being placed on the right object, Jesus? Jesus is alive! This is good news, this is great news! Without the resurrection, there is no forgiveness, there is no grace, there is no hope for eternal life. Not only should this be great news to us just as it was to Mary, John, Peter and the other disciples of Jesus, but it's news that MUST be shared. (06-05-16)

If Jesus really died what does that mean for you? Ever feel like God is distant, your faith is dry or feels boring, or you fear or just choose not to share that your are a follower of Jesus? We've arrived at The Cross. Jesus has spent three years doing ministry that has led to this; taking on our sin, our shame, our pride, etc., on a cruel cross and enduring a cruel death. John and four women remain with Jesus, while the other disciples have fled. At the core, where do we stand firm and where do we flea? (05-22-16)

There are multiple things competing for "kingship" in your life on a daily basis. Whether it's approval, wealth, career, relationships, shame, popularity, power, etc., is it really worthy of that position? As we open up John 19 we see two core issues that prevented people from allowing Jesus to be their king and we see why Jesus is absolutely worthy to be our king. (05-15-16)

If you live for people's acceptance, you'll die from their rejection. In the second part of this mini two-part series inside of the Gospel of John, we look at Peter's denial of Jesus, His best friend who he said he would never turn his back on. What is it that brought people to this place and what does Jesus want to show us in the midst of it? (05-08-16)

What comes to mind when you think about God? This is a critical question and will shape everything about the way you live, the way you love, and the way you see people. In this amazing account, a prostitute who Jesus has forgiven of sin comes to worship her savior and as whispers start to swirl, Jesus cuts through all of it with grace and truth. (05-01-16)

If you want to know more about who Jesus REALLY is, look at the way His trial goes down and more importantly look at what He allows to happen; not for His own sake, but for the sake of the world that was calling for his death. Jesus love isn't contractual, flighty, or self-seeking, it's unconditional to the very end. (04-24-16)

Our culture places a high value on convenience & fairness and so do we. Are these things bad in and of themselves? No. But what happens when we make these the rule or guiding factor for our relationships or how we view and interact with people? What Jesus shows us as He faces an inconvenient & unfair arrest is that He is compelled by something greater. (04-17-16)

Our lives are meant to be lived with and for a purpose. We were not created generically which means we are not intended to live generically. As we listen to the prayer of Jesus to His father we are reminded of Jesus' purpose in coming to earth and pointed to our own purpose in the hands of the creator. (04-10-16)

Peace is defined as a lack of disturbance. Anyone's hopes disturbed, expectations, desires, plans, health, everyday life feel disturbed? We don't live in a peaceful world and the circumstances of our lives are not always peaceful. So, is is possible to be at peace even when life or the world is not? In this passage of John 16, we get a clear answer from Jesus. (04-03-16)

Through Jesus being raised to life we have been raised to life! Jesus took what we deserved to the cross and put death to death by overcoming the grave, overcoming sin, and offering us new life. This isn't a gimmick, this isn't a fable, it may sound too good to be true, but it actually is. This is the good news of Easter! (03-27-16)

If there was an infomercial that offered to take all of our sorrow and transform it into joy, the phone's would be ringing off the hook and it would be the greatest selling product of all time. But, truth be told, you can't buy joy, you can't manufacture it, but you can experience it through a relationship with Jesus as we see in John 16:16-24 as Jesus continue to prepare His disciples for the cro...

We all need help. We need help in our relationships, in our struggles, with the future, and the list goes on and on. In the disciples greatest time of need, Jesus offers some amazing help. But do we recognize it, do we understand it, or have we forgotten the helper. Gospel-centered is not "Jesus only." And unless we see the Holy Spirit as equally great, we won't see God as fully good. As Jesus gets closer to the cross He makes it clear to His disciples that many will oppose them because they choose to follow Him. In this last section of John 15 we find Jesus challenging us to abide, even through opposition, knowing that our hope is in something far greater than just this lifetime. (03-06-16)

How often do we really ask the question, "am I a good friend?" Probably not that much. With so much going on in our own lives, we can easily miss the importance of being a good friend to others. What we see in our second week of "abide" is that Jesus cares about friendship, demonstrates it, and compels us to do the same as it will produce good fruit. (02-28-16)

At our core we have incredibly strong self-reliant tendencies. We think we know more than we know, can do more than we can do, can solve all of our own problems, can earn salvation or lose it, and the list goes on. But honestly, how's it working out? In John 15 Jesus graciously offers His disciples another option...the opportunity to abide. (02-21-16)

As Jesus prepares to go to the cross, he continues to care for and encourage the disciples and promises them a helper. We can often focus all of our attention on Jesus or God the Father and neglect to remember that the Holy Spirit is equally God and equally important to our discipleship and overall life. (02-14-16)

Where do we go and what do we do when we suffer? There are a few thing that are inevitable, and one of those is that in our lives, we will face difficult seasons and circumstances. During Jesus final meal with his disciples, after 3 yrs of intimate ministry together he now says, "i'm leaving...and where I'm going you can't follow." As you image the pain of hearing this news, lets look at how Jesus...

If something is authentic, there's going to be proof of it. When it comes to following Jesus, there's always proof of a true disciple, and as we hear from Jesus is John 13, that proof is a deep, heartfelt love for God and love for people. (01-31-16)

There are a lot of ideas floating around about what it means to really be a follower of Jesus or what salvation really looks like. As we open up John 13 and Jesus predicts His betrayal at the hands of Judas, one of His followers, we get a clear picture that a genuine relationship with Jesus isn't about good works, going to church, giving money, or even serving...it requires something only Jesus ca...
