The writer asks prayer for himself, and in doing so shows us what is on his heart for pastoral ministry. What is that? I. v18a Pastoral Humility: you need to pray for your pastors. II. v18b Pastoral Integrity: pray for your pastor's godliness. III. v19 Pastoral Proximity: pray for your shared life with your pastors.

What comfort is there for us when One so high stoops so low to serve us?

v7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. v17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

I. Because of Jesus, Christians offer sacrifices of both lip and life, vv15-16. II. Consider your lips, v15. III. Consider your life, v16.

I. We have an unchanging Christ, vv7-9. II. We have a divisive cross, vv10-12. III. We have an abiding city, vv13-14.
