We all need a priest to represent us before God, and to sympathize with us in our weakness. How is Jesus better qualified than Aaron and his descendants to be our high priest?

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. I. Jesus invites us to be his disciple, v24 II. Jesus reveals what it means to be a disciple, v24. III. Jesus gives us a reason to be his disciple, v25

I. The timing of the birth of Christ shows us God's sovereignty over the world, vv1-3. II. The place of the birth of Christ show us God's providence in our lives, vv4-5. III. The manner of the birth of Christ shows us God's humility, vv6-7. 

I. We must listen to the Word of God, v11. II. We must fear the Word of God, v12. III. We must see that we can’t escape the Word of God, v13. IV. Our only hope is the Word of God made flesh.

We glory in the greatness of Jesus. I. Jesus is faithful in God's house, just as Moses was, vv1-2. II. Jesus is the builder of God's house, but Moses is just a member of it, vv3-4. III. Jesus is the Son over God's house, but Moses was just a servant in the house, vv5-6. 

Peter rebukes Jesus and Jesus rebukes Peter. I. Disciples of Jesus need to see the necessity of the sufferings, death and resurrection of the Messiah, v21. II. Disciples of Jesus can be wildly wrong about important spiritual matters, for which we need to be corrected, vv22-23. III. Disciples of Jesus must learn to think God’s thoughts after him, letting him mold our thinking, v23.

I. Jesus disarms the devil, v14. II. Jesus delivers us from death, v15. III. Jesus diverts from us the wrath of God, vv16-17. IV. Jesus dispenses help in our temptations. 

I. The identity of the Son of Man, vv13-16. II. The blessing of God the Father, v17. III. The unstoppable construction of the church, v18. IV. The gift of the keys of the kingdom, v19. V. The strange secrecy of Christ, v20.    

Why did God become Man? I. to lead us out of misery and into glory, v10. II. To set us apart as his brothers, vv11-12. III. To secure us for God as a gift, v13.

I. Christians must beware of false teachers, vv5-6. II. Christians must beware of false teaching, v12. III. Christians should be self-aware of their slowness to learn and grow, vv5-7. IV. But take heart! Notice the patience of Jesus with his disciples, vv8-11. 

Why did God become Man? Since our dignity and dominion were ruined by a man, by a man they must be restored. I. What does it mean to be human? It means Dignity and Dominion, vv5-8. II. What has our rebellion against God brought? Disorder and Death, v8b. III. So what did Jesus do? He came to restore us. He tasted death for us that he might give us life, v9.
