After the angels’ announcement, the shepherds recognized what an incredible gift they had been given. It is awe-inspiring to witness the complete and overwhelming joy of their response. May we be filled with that same joy so that we are compelled to share it with others.

Join us for this special service for Advent, a season when we are reminded of the birth of Christ. In this service, we celebrate that Jesus is born in Bethlehem, the House of Bread, to nourish and strengthen us in our faith and feed us with his Word of truth to fill our lives.

The angels came to proclaim peace on earth. Not the peace this world strives after, but the peace of Christ provided through the forgiveness of sins. Let us be peacemakers this season who point others to the only source of true peace, Jesus Christ our Lord.

The prophets proclaimed the coming of Christ, our rescue from sin. In response to this sure and certain hope, the prophets also prompt us to examine our hearts and strive forward to life everlasting.

On this Thanksgiving Eve, we take a special moment to give thanks! Together, we thank the Lord for people, places and things He has given us!

Ultimately, what we hear and learn from Jesus is supposed to change us. It is supposed to turn us into different people. But the change Jesus wants to make in us is one that leads us into childlikeness and not complexity, humility and not arrogance.

As Christians, we have the greatest message and hope in the world. Jesus wants us to go and share the hope that lives in us with the world. When one man declares what Jesus has done for him, it changes the whole region in which he lives. How can we change our regions with the message of the gospel?

Jesus loves to give! This is why He gives His life for the life of the world. Jesus wants us to reflect Him in how we are generous with others. And we don’t need a lot to be generous. With just a little – five loaves and two fish – Jesus can do a lot.

Jesus’ ministry on earth revolved around serving others. This is why He healed people and taught people and, ultimately, died for people. The night before Jesus dies, He gives His disciples a lesson on service. He calls upon us to serve the vulnerable in ways that can make us vulnerable.

Central to Jesus’ mission was forgiveness. Jesus calls us to share the forgiveness we have received from Him with others who have hurt us. And just like Jesus’ forgiveness is limitless, ours should be as well.

Before we are called to do anything for Jesus, we are called to be a certain kind of people in Jesus. In John 15, Jesus tells us that the key to doing good things is in being with Him. The more time we spend with Jesus, the more we begin to look and live like Jesus.

Every parent has had the frustrating experience of telling their child one thing and then watching them do the opposite. God has the same experience with us. The reason He has given us His Word is because He wants us to live according to His Word. Jesus tells us that the purpose of his message is not just so that folks can hear some good preaching, but so that they will live according to it.

The world is full of things we can love at the expense of our relationship with Jesus. Success, money, status, or our accomplishments, can become the things we value above all else. We need to make the conscious decision to love what matters most in our lives by giving all of our time, energy, and affection to Jesus.

Truth is in short supply within our world. The word of God gives us all of the truth we need to live a full life in Christ. We should keep these truths and consider them wisdom, instruction, and insight for our lives. No matter what we do, we cannot lose truth.

When Jesus rescues us, He begins a process within us that takes each of us from where we were to a life that is secure and centered on Him. It is true that Jesus loves us just the way we are, but it is equally true that He loves us too much to leave us that way.

Since the advent of the Church, there have been people who have tried to spread false teachings about what it means to be the people of God. Paul considered these hollow and deceptive. He warned Christians to be careful of what they believed to be true. Stand firm on the simple truths of the Gospel.

When Moses spoke with God, his face glowed. But that glow faded. We need a face that will not just temporarily shine on us, but eternally shine on us (Numbers 6:25).

At the same time God is giving Moses a command to worship only Him as part of the Ten Commandments, the rest of the Israelites are building and worshipping a false God because Moses has been conversing with God for so long. At those times where God’s presence seems absent and His word and will seem distant, we must not fall into the temptation to look for another god.

God promises to be with His people, enthroned on the Ark of the Covenant. At the center of the Ark is a mercy seat, which covers the Ten Commandments kept inside the Ark. When we break God’s commandments, mercy covers us!

God gives His people Ten Commandments not to burden them, but to free them by guiding them. When God gives commands, He does so with our best interest at heart. Divine commandments not only reveal God’s will, but His tender heart toward us.

The Israelites just faced too much water as they stared down the Red Sea. Now they face the danger of too little water as they swelter in a desert. God provides water from a rock, which Paul says is nothing less than Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4).

God has provided for Israel through rescuing Israel from their slavery. But no matter what God does for the Israelites, they always seem to want more. In Exodus 16, God provides bread from heaven, which prefigures God’s provision in Christ as the Bread from heaven (cf. John 6:51).

No matter what obstacle we may face, God can make a way! When the Israelites believe they are backed up against a sea, God parts the sea. In what area do you believe there is no way out? Even if there is no way out, God can give you a way through, just as He does with the Israelites.

God has judgment against sin, as is seen in His judgment of Egypt. But He does not treat Israel as their sins deserve. Instead, He passes over them because judgment for them has fallen on lambs. God also passes over our sins because judgment for them has fallen on the Lamb.
