Re:Building School 2.0

They can't all be winners. As Chris and Zac continue re-visiting their ideas and writing from 10 years ago, they meet their first regret. The idea? Yes, still important. The execution of the chapter? Well, this episode can serve as an upgraded replacement.

It's the shortest chapter so far, and it's left Chris and Zac with a lot to consider as they examine whether what counted as modern schools ten years ago still fit the bill today.  The answer? It's complicated. 

Chris and Zac dive in to Chapter 3, wish they hadn't added "the" to the chapter title, and double down on the need for civics, citizenship, and government classes for all students.

Examining their thinking on the ideas of Chapter 2, Chris and Zac reflect on its original focus on the no-excuses school movement compared to the larger colonialist mindset growing in some larger conversations about the purpose and future of public education and teaching "other people's children."

On the exact 10th anniversary it was published, Chris and Zac revisit the first chapter of Building School 2.0 and double down on the importance of school as a public good. They also examine where they underestimated the onslaught of the attention economy and the tension between capitalism and the potentially liberating effects of technology in education.
