Real Recovery

*This show originally aired on June 20, 2021 No matter how far we go astray or how often we fall back into sin, God still pursues us. Isabelle built a belief that everyone in her life would eventually leave her and this led to her continued using, but Christ still had a greater plan in store.

Many of us walk through life going through the motions, putting on a face that doesn't reflect our heart's intentions. One day when the Holy Spirit convicted Marshall's heart, he finally made the decision to lean in. His story was loaded with destruction but now he's working hard to please the Lord.

Some are fortunate enough to get to the place of being sick and tired of being sick and tired. This was the case for Janessa and now God is doing a new thing ( Isaiah 43:18-19 ) in her life, by giving her  purpose in Honduras .

Dealing drugs in high school, breaking your neck multiple times, and abusing medication should lead you down a path of no return, but Jesus has different ideas. Rob says God's given him more than a second chance, He's never given up on him. When he changed his attitude while checking into the ARC at the Salvation Army for the second time, things began to shift.

Tim Walsh, Senior Vice President at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, joins Bill and George to talk about bettering our recovery and needing the help of the Spirit to perfect things.

*This show originally aired on June 6, 2021 Growing up with a father who was a drunk led  Jim Maxim  to becoming an alcoholic at a young age. A very serious life threatening incident put him in a coma, where Jesus would meet him and everything changed. He learned that nobody (including himself) is beyond the reach of God.

Relationships, especially the close ones, in life are so important- especially within a family. And when you lose someone you love, it can be very hard to cope with the loss and move forward. We try to take control but often we end up making the wrong decisions, and for Sinai it wasn't until he let God truly take over his life that things began to change.

We often follow the actions of those we look up to, even if they may not be the best people to emulate. This was true for Bradley and he eventually got to a place where he came to the Lord with nothing. Jesus then revealed to him the purpose He had for him, to encourage and speak life into others.

Often times it can take some time for us to get honest with the Lord and admit when we need to make a change. For Rebecca, she eventually got to a point where she had to pray that God would make a way. Leaning in to the fact that in her weakness He is strong , shifted everything.

This was the case for Janet, as she struggled with being honest about her drinking problem. But eventually creating a plan to stick to every day made all the difference and led her in the right direction.

Addiction can often times keep it's grip on us for far longer than we'd hope it would, even when it seems like we've broken away time and time again. This was the case for Paul John, but Jesus continued to pursue Him over and over- and learning the truth of God's perfect will changed everything.

A tough upbringing and lack of a support system led him down a winding road, but when a few people at  Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge  refused to give up on him everything changed.

Carl Johnson (Pastor at  Faith City Church  in St. Paul) felt a calling at a very young age to be a preacher, but it took a long time to put this plan in action. He got involved with gangs, selling drugs, found himself homeless, and in prison multiple times and despite all of that God still had a greater plan in store.

Bill and George take a deeper look at each of the steps, providing helpful Scripture along the way. Outlining the importance of taking things one day at a time , learning to rely on the Lord to help us , and much more.

Our minds can play tricks on us and often times lead us down a dark road if we listen to those voices. We always have the choice to listen to another voice but that can only happen with help from the Lord- and Zach experienced this when he got to the end of his road. Choosing to believe God loves us no matter what we've done, changed everything.

Alcoholism led to drug addiction and a near death experience, but what the enemy meant for evil in her life ( Genesis 50:20 )- He turned for good.

Often times even when we are lost and not seeking the Lord in any ways, He is still intervening to keep us alive. David felt this a number of times in life but it wasn't until he learned that all he needed to do was accept Jesus that things started to change. Looking back he can say that "you have to die - in order to be raised."

Renae Danberry , LADC at Christian Family Solutions , joins Bill and George to discuss treating people's mental health with the same effort, time, and resources as someone's substance abuse. They unpack the balance of using tough love and choosing to step back and why the process of recovery doesn't truly start until you leave a recovery facility.

There are a number of people (especially kids) who want to get out of their fractured situation but it takes faithful individuals to reach out and love on them to make a difference. This has been the mission of Peter Wohler (executive director at Source MN ) since 1995 and the journey has included plenty of learning experiences along the way.

However, as an adult, his greed and narcissism led him down a path of not wanting to keep up with the Jones' but be the Jones' with whom people tried to keep up. This led to alcoholism, a felony conviction and time in prison.

Choosing cheap substitutes in exchange for God's promises can seem very short-sided and easy to avoid but many pick the former.  Adam Comer was in the darkest season of his life when he heard a hope filled Easter message just when he needed it most. It changed his whole life mindset - shifting to serving Him at whatever the cost.

It often times can take hitting rock bottom for someone to finally hear God, even if He's been calling out for a long time. When Ron finally heard and responded to His voice, he went from hopeless to heaven. Even through multiple attempts to end it all, the Lord had a greater plan to use it all for His glory and gift him with happy feet .

We often hear about religion, denominations, and doctrines and while all of these things have meaning, their significance fades heavily without the presence of a relationship. Jesus invites each of us to have a personal relationship with Him and it wasn't until John Bartholomew fully grasped this idea, that things began to change in his life.
