Learning and teaching has been disrupted by parents at Tikhontele Secondary School in Matsulu east of Mbombela in Mpumalanga. The parents are demanding that the school curriculum be changed. The Maths and Science school obtained 45% matric pass rate last year. An urgent meeting with the parents and the Department of Education was called to resolve the impulse.

The re-opening of schools for Grade 12 learners at Letshega-Molokwane High School at Ga-Matlala in Limpopo has started on a low note. The school obtained a zero percent pass rate after the twelve learners, who sat for final matric exams, failed. Low learner enrollment is said to have been the biggest contributor to the dismal performance.

The Eastern Cape Health Department has received a boost for health care delivery. This follows the appointment of 1 240 newly qualified health professionals from the national department. These include 179 medical interns; 130 Community Service Doctors and 654 Community Service Nurses. Metrorail has confirmed that three people have died following a train accident in Mountain View, Pretoria. More than three hundred others have been injured. A train is said to have collided into the back of another. Charles Mabaso from the Emergency Services gave update on the accident.

A Mpumalanga woman who has been charged with murdering her four children in Klarinet in Emalahleni, Mpumalamga has appeared briefly in court in Witbank. A blind albino woman from Garankuwa north of Pretoria, says she fears for her life. She says her neighbour is intolerant of people living with albinism, and threatens her.
