However, the challenge is that labeling creates opportunities to stigmatize specific groups and identify those groups as problematic. We need to be careful when we label but realize that labeling is an important part to develop new knowl...

Focusing on scientific research productivity is just flat out wrong. 26.05.2022

It’s just flat out wrong to focus on scientific research productivity. Your goal is to simply just put in the work, and ignore scientific research productivity. If we train future scientist just to focus on the numbers, there is no incentive for them to do good work. In my view scientific research productivity is a banal construct, and there is no, or minimal, direct relationship between action an...

Why should you provide an abundant amount of content online? 25.05.2022

I talk about why it’s important to provide a tremendous amount of content online. The goal is to build a reputation overtime, and use some of the factors or characteristics of the Internet. Three of the biggest factors is the fact that information storage is inexpensive, there are compound effects, and heterogeneous preferences across people.

How come business professors do not use their research for investment strategies? 25.05.2022

How come business professors don’t use their empirical findings for investment strategies in financial markets? I suggest that the world is a lot more complicated than the simplistic models that we use for our research findings. Our goal is for generalization and not prediction.

Keep taking steps forward. 24.05.2022

My message is always consistent. It is just keeping the steps forward. Keep moving towards where you want to go, no matter what is going on in your life. It’s the consistency that it’s going to get you to where you need to go. Nothing else.

for some reason, my days are almost always completely filled, no matter how I plan my day. I am always rushing to get my work done, and no matter how much rushing that I do, there’s always more work to be done at the end of the day. It’s an interesting phenomenon where we fill our day with work, no matter what you actually are accomplishing throughout the day. There is always a mad rush to complet...

Just keep showing up. 22.05.2022

There’s no secret to building some sort of skill or capability, or any other thing in your life that matters to you. The secret is to show up when nobody else wants to. Everything that matters in your life always sucks when you’re actually trying to get it. Once you actually get there, you’ll realize that it’s the act of showing up, and that grind, that allowed you to actually achieve it.

What is the right amount of abstraction in a research paper? 20.05.2022

I talked about the right amount of abstraction and research paper. The more abstract the idea is the more it’s gonna account for more things, however the less that is going to be contextual. The problem is is that contextual understanding is a lot easier than extract understanding. I think the only way that you know what is the correct amount of abstraction is simply through trial and error.

Entrepreneurship Lesson: Exploit the fact that most people are self-centered 20.05.2022

One of the things that I’ve learned with the reciprocity project is realizing that most people are very self-centered. Coming to terms with the fact that people are self-centered is challenging, however I am learning to exploit the fact that most people are self-centered. In other words you work within the domain better self centered and then you figure out a structure such that people will natura...

You have to learn to be less caring. 20.05.2022

One thing that I’ve learned is that you need to be OK with who you are and not be so caring about other people. You really have to take a step back and just be fine with who you are. You have to learn how to speak your thoughts, but then if nobody’s willing to listen to you, you have to be OK with that. We really need to step back, and simply wait until other people are ready to meet you halfway....

Enough with the statistical techniques! 18.05.2022

it’s important to focus on the basic idea of what you’re trying to show. Statistical techniques I think I have overrun our literature, and we really need to think about whether we should be using fancier statistical techniques and science or not. In my personal appealing mean, we should be going back to basic plots.

Don’t just stop when you get negative feedback 18.05.2022

Don’t just stop when you get a negative feedback. Keep working at it and refining it, all ideas are not good when you start.

Be more humble and real 18.05.2022

I think we need to stop putting on as many airs as we put on, and stop pretending. Just try to be yourself, and ask for help when you need it. It’s an absolute learned skill to do so. This means that you need to stop projecting like you’re somebody, when we know none of us really are.
