House Bill 834 went into effect Dec. 1st of 2024 after Republican lawmakers overrode Governor Cooper's veto. This law repeals "Raise The Age", legislation that was passed in 2019 that states juveniles ages 16 and 17 who commit serious crimes in North Carolina are no longer charged as an adult.
