We all face situations that are difficult to understand from our limited perspective. When things don’t go as expected, our instinct is often to try harder, but is that what God is calling us to? When suffering and trial come, where does your heart turn? This last week, we began our new sermon series through Job and looked at how God allowed Job to suffer even though he had done nothing wrong. As we finished Malachi, we saw the Israelites wrestle with that question. They claimed to be God’s people, but their lives told a different story. We’re not that different. In each of our lives, we can look back and see the faithfulness of God. As we studied the life of Joseph, we saw that it was only by relying on God’s faithfulness that he was able to keep going. We often make promises we fail to keep. We say we will hang out and never do, forget to respond to messages, or promise to pray and forget. But in Malachi 2, we see that God never forgets or lets up on His promises. This passage is not meant to shame us into trying harder. Marriage is a picture, but it is not the destination. It is meant to shape our hearts for our ultimate hope: eternal life with God. Revelation 21 reminds us that God's future is renewal, not replacement. He is not abandoning what He made. He is restoring it. The way we live and love now reveals where our hope truly is. When you look in a mirror, you see a reflection of yourself. It shows you how you actually look, the food on your face, the tired eyes, whatever is really going on. Marriage has a similar effect. Eunuchs were men in the Bible who lived as outcasts, often separated from full participation in the worship of God's people. This week, we looked at Isaiah 56, where the Lord gives special attention to these men. When you’re buying a house, there are plenty of things you consider. How many rooms are there? How big is it? Does it have a fenced-in yard? But one thing has to be non-negotiable: a solid foundation. Without it, the entire house becomes unstable.
