Prompt Queens

The data shows that whenever we have a prompt that mentions a truly successful songwriter, more of you tune in. NO, Mr. Richie did not have time in his busy schedule to come out and do the show with us, but don't worry. We wrote his songs for him.

Nothing says, "We're getting tired of this thing called cold in late winter and begging for spring", than the prompt "Costa Rica!" Emily and Hope tackle this new one and Hope convinced early on that this might be the episode where they each finally end of bringing the same song to the table....and now you have to listen to find out.  Listen, like, share, subscribe and thank you. Keeping writing!

Dear friends, It's us again and we're back with another NEW weekly installment of everyone's favorite prompt songwriting podcast. Listen in as Hope and Emily tackle the prompt, "Cooler." I know I know. YOu have questions. So do we. Tune in to see if anything got clearer for any of us. Love, Hope and Emily

Don't ask us why the prompt is Neptune, just honor the moment, OK? It's where we're at, it took us to places, and we took you along for the journey without even asking your permission. WE're still back, this second episode of Season THREE is proof and we love you. Now go write that song.

Did you think we were gone for good? Nope. Just steeping. Just brewing, like a good cup of TEA. Welcome back, friends and neighbors. Hope and Emily return with a brand new episode and a brand new lease on life. It's on. Let's write some songs.

Emily and Hope are in The Garden State and writing new songs to share with you! It's been a minute and we've missed you. This is Prompt Queens, my friends!

My final interview from the dance is Mr. Mark Erelli. What a pleasure to get a chance to talk to him after being a fan of his for so many years. Mark (and Emily) and I have met many times through The Listening Room in Hastings, but this was the first time I had the chance to talk songs. Listen in, hear his great song, "The Hitter," and be sure to check out the rest of his catalog after the show. I...

My friend and FAI roommate, Katie Dahl, is number five of six field reports and it was so delightful to get a chance to talk songs and writing with her on the microphone. Also, Emily and I talk about Katie every third episode probably on an average PQ rotation. Find out more about Katie and follow her on the socials! Her website is: www.katiedahlmusic.com

Continuing our field reporting with new music from artists you may or may not know, this 4th report features U.K. artist Carmen Phalen of Misty River. You are going to want to listen to this conversation because it's testimony to what music can do and how life can flash neon signs to help you along your way. I had so much fun getting a chance to talk to Carmen. Be sure to find out more by followin...

My third field report is with my friend, Darryl Purpose. We get a chance to talk on mic about his work, his life and music and it was so much fun! Enjoy this episode and look for Darryl on all the socials! His website is www.darrylpurpose.com

Our second Folk Alliance field report songwriter is U.K's Chloe Foy. It was so fun to get to sit down with an artist who I really didn't know and get a chance to hear her talk about her work, her process and her music. It was so much fun! You can find Chloe on instagram, she is @chloefoymusic and her website is:  www.chloefoy.com

Hey everyone! This is Prompt Queens reporting from Folk Alliance International! This is Hope in the field submitting the first of six field reports where I interview 6 artists from Folk Alliance. Our first field report is Colorado songwriter, Matthew Fowler. You can find him on Instagram: @matthewkfowler His website is: www.matthewfowlermusic.com

Hello Dear Listener, First, my apologies for getting this out one day later. Second, this is a continuation of our first 30 Word song prompt episode and you may wish to go back and listen to that one before you dive into this one (definitely not necessary). This week Emily and Hope. use the SAME 30 words to construct new songs and in this one you'll find out how they did.

We love Taylor. Who doesn't? She's had such a great long and diverse career that there were lots of options to choose from when thinking about how to write a song like her. Tune in this week and then write your own!

Music is a great teaching tool. Songs that teach ideas are as old as ideas and songs put together. This week, Emily and Hope write some songs to teach everyone a thing or two. Two things. She teaches one thing in song and I teach another. Have a listen then write your own!

The prompt today is "re-runs." So all you latch key kids, don't answer the door or answer the phone til Mom comes home from work and settle in for a long afternoon of, you guessed it, reruns.

What do we know stuff about? Not that much. But we DO know a thing or two about small town news. That's our prompts, these are our songs, and you are still awesome.

I think by now you know about how old Emily and Hope are and in this episode they double down on the nostalgia and Gen X vibe while talking through their "Reality Bites" inspired songs one bite at a time. "Melrose Place is a really good show."

New episode one day late but still awesome! Hopie had some post-production google search How Tos to get through in order to post this show, and I think we'll all agree it was worth the wait! The prompt is Fireplace but don't expect a controlled burn when the Prompt Queens are on fire. Write songs, everybody!

It's all Left Shark all the time this episode only we're not wearing costumes and it's not the Super Bowl and none of us are famous. Katy Perry is a great songwriter who has had amazing success writing some meaty, catchy as hell tunes and today we get to hang out with her muse. Have a listen, go back and listen if you haven't had a Katy Perry listening party lately. You can thank us later.

What do two songwriters do to make it tough on themselves? They choose the prompt, "30 words." But it was fun and we've missed you and it turned out to be a really cool prompt.

Do you have an epic timeless tale of revenge or love or falling off a cliff in a long dress? Me neither. But the Decemberists do, so fear not. We tackle this kickass band and either do them a service or a disservice with our attempts. But ya know what? WE had a great time doing it. Write those songs, humans! The world needs your feelings and stuff.

The Edit Episode has Hope and Emily revisiting old songs from the podcast and taking a stab at editing. Hope chose her song from the "Tents" episode and Emily chose her song from the "Trains" episode. Today you can listen in and here the old version, the new version and talk about what it's like reworking old work. It's the last episode of 2022 and next year starts a whole new chapter in Prompt Qu...

"Please put a penny in the poor Prompt's hat." It is holiday season, the bells are ringing and the prompts are flowing red and green and tinsel-ly in the moonlight everybody. Hope and Emily try their hand at some holiday cheer using 1-4-5 chords as always. And, in the spirit of the season, THANK YOU to our listeners and friends for being so awesome and hanging out with us from Prompt to Prompt.

The girls are back. We knew they would be and they've written some sweet sweet sing along tunes for you and your's.
