The Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI) is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) of the Department of Justice. Probation’s aim is ‘Changing Lives for Safer Communities’ and it does this by tackling the root causes of offending behaviour and rehabilitating people to protect the public from harm and reduce the number of victims of crime.** The work probation does to protect the public from harm and rehabilitate people who have offended is vitally important given 21.5% of crime is re-offending.
