"A clean conscience is yours!" Good Friday Chief Service 2022 15.04.2022

Moses and the Prophets preached to reform their conscience, call them to repentance, and amend their life. But they refused to listen and double-downed in error and foolishness. That’s why they enlisted the help of Rome and stirred up a mob of people with bad consciences to cry out for Jesus’ death. They “shot the messenger” and crucified Jesus.

"When you listen to the Words of Institution, listen real close" Holy Thursday 2022 15.04.2022

God is only present for you where Jesus' body is presented to you. God goes so deep into the flesh that he gives his weight to sinful men and women, boys and girls with such reckless, loving abandon that you're embarrassed for him. His love is so great that He lays down His life for you, offering that divine love and life to even you. He lays His body and blood down on this altar abundantly and wi...

“His disciples did not understand these things at first" Palmarum 2022 10.04.2022

Have some sympathy for the disciples, the women, the crowds, and even the religious and political leaders responsible for abandoning, mocking, condemning, and crucifying Jesus. You have the benefit of the 40,000 view, where he can see from horizon to horizon, from Adam to the new Adam, from Creation to the New Heavens and New Earth. But at the moment, it was hard to make sense of it all, even if y...

"Naming our enemies as we pray against them" Lent 5 Midweek 2022 07.04.2022

Don’t be afraid to speak directly and clearly to God in prayer. Name your enemies. And if you’re wrong and they will be converted, thanks be to God. Pray God to defeat them and repent them. And if not, pray that He destroy them. Your life and faith depend on Him ending the foul reign of enemies physically and spiritually.

"The Gospel is the power of God that saves all who believe in Him" Judica 2022 03.04.2022

Be honest with yourself. Jesus is offensive. He says things you don’t like. He tells you to do something you don’t want to do. Each time you come to church, you hope this is the Sunday you get by without Him noticing you and your sin. You have a good thing going, and you don’t want Jesus to upend your day, week, or year. You don’t want Him to expose your lust for power and endless pursuit of wealt...

"Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!” Lent 4 Midweek 2022 31.03.2022

The situation in Psalm 80 is pretty rough. The problem in this psalm is not private, so to speak; it has to do with afflictions brought upon the Church. Asaph, the Psalmist, describes in vivid detail the common experience of the Christian congregation. She is often given to be in contention with her neighbors. Those who hate her seek her ruin and destruction. Worse yet, it seems that the good plan...

"On the mountain, Jesus has gathered His church" Laetare 2022 27.03.2022

This world is a wilderness of despair, hopelessness, and need. It is governed by power and greed, poverty and want. This world is governed by laws of economics, like supply and demand. But the communion of the saints of God, His holy church has no scarcity, but She lives in the abundance of the Gospel. You have been gathered today to God’s holy mountain Zion. Here you are given to sit down in gree...
