I made this with a crude granular synthesizer that I wrote to allow the control of the sample start and duration to vary over time.

Two riffs, with the A string detuned occasionally.

This piece is built entirely from a recording I made of popcorn popping. The Junto theme was "minimally viable music."

I generated this piece by writing this script https://github.com/jimkang/midimod/blob/main/tools/micromodes.js then running it through an amp simulator. Back on the Synthruary train!

I didn't use the Synthruary prompt because I was short on time. Basically, I wrote a tool (https://github.com/jimkang/midimod/blob/main/tools/faux-sinusoid.js) to graph this (https://www.desmos.com/calculator/lz43zxzh1b) into midi. Fun fact: It does not actually slow down.

My second Synthruary song is Message from Afar. It's another low song. I made a simple instrument (https://github.com/jimkang/pd-playground/blob/main/patches/synth2.pd) that shifted the pitch by amount depending on the note in the sequence. This is a piece that I recorded by triple-tracking myself playing an FM synthesis patch (https://github.com/jimkang/pd-playground/commit/e12f5e40f3b795cd4a76f3da66dcde7d7484f907 the "twist" being that it has an extra cosine applied to the modulated signal) written in Pure Data. The prompt for this day is "minimalism", so there is only one chord here that is modulated throughout the piece.
