At the Feast of Booths, Jesus invited the Jews to drink from the fountain of life. His words caused division between the people; some believed and others didn’t. Today, His invitation is all the same, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”

Intellectual knowledge of God and experiential knowledge of God are not the same thing. Jesus spent the majority of His remarks from John 7 poking holes in the hypocrisy of the Jew’s. They professed to know about God, and yet didn’t know Him at all. In order to know God, you must have a right relationship with Christ. 

Six months after the Passover, Jesus was expected to return to Jerusalem for the Feast of Booths. While awaiting His return, the people grumbled and muttered amongst one another asking, “Where is He?” And “Who is He?”

Jesus Christ is the provider of our salvation — (through faith and feasting on the Bread of life). He is also, the protector of our redeemed souls— Christ provides us with the means for salvation, and then protects us from ever losing it.

Last week we learned that Jesus is our Provider and our Protector. In this week’s text we looked at three statements He makes in His “Bread of life discourse,” where He says I AM, I will, and You must.  I AM the Bread of Life, I will satisfy your souls, You must behold and believe.

The feeding of the 5,000 is evidence of Christ’s humility and hospitality to a people who would call for His death, undeserved. For the believer, Jesus not only provides for our physical wants, but also our spiritual needs. He is both our provider  and   protector.

In John’s first epistle, the beloved disciple helps the believer to know that they have eternal life. In today’s message, Brother Tim prayerfully selects three questions from the book which we must ask ourselves in order to have assurance of our salvation. What do we hate? What do we love? Who do we know?

When Jesus made the defense for His deity in John 5, He didn’t just stop at His own personal claims. In accordance with Levitical law, He also provided 3 witnesses: John the Baptist, His works, and Scripture.

There are two types of people in the world: those who are dead in sin, and those who are alive in Christ. Your perspective of Jesus is evidence of which one of those people you are.

Biblical faith is not based solely in the works of God. Although physical miracles may lead us to Him, they shouldn’t be our only concern. John’s account of the Samaritan woman at the well reminds us that there is no single person outside the reach of God’s saving grace; from the top of the social “Tower of Importance” to the lowest rung. 

C.S. Lewis once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” The truest mark of conversion is humility. A man humbled by the saving grace of God will desire to obey God’s Word. And a man obedient to the Word of God, will live by the words of John the Baptist, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

God loved the world  in this way,  He gave His Son to die a death that we deserve. The love of God extends to the outer parts of the world and into the vilest of hearts. Join us as we look at the redemptive relationship between the love of God, the work of Christ, and the responsibility of man.

God hates irreverent worship. In John 2, Jesus Christ physically drove out men who turned the temple into a place of business. If He came to our church this week, how would He respond? Are we worshipping the LORD in way that glorifies Him?

In John 2, Jesus performs His first “sign;” a miracle in which He transforms almost 200 gallons of water into wine. Today, He is able to transform not only water into wine, but sinners into saints. 

As believers, our responsibility is to know the Word of God and point others to Christ. Even the newest Christian can invite their neighbors to come and see the gospel proclaimed. With our efforts, prayerfully the LORD will use those moments to reveal Himself to the lost. By His grace, they too should then know the Word of God and point others to Christ. As believers, it is our responsibility to testify that Jesus Christ is the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. From the moment you believe that truth you are a witness, a voice, and a messenger. May all you do be used for God’s glory!
