Because believers are in Christ, death is not the end. What we are waiting for is far better. Jesus raised, and so when you die, you will raise. We don't look back, we look ahead.

The church at Thessalonica did not just preach the word, they lived it out and turned from idols. Because you are blind to your idols, you need a Savior to open up your eyes. God convicts but also uses other people to expose your blind spots.

Because of this, we are obsessed with telling others our story for validation and acceptance. Paul teaches that there is a better story. 

This week Pastor Matt begins our new sermon series in 1 and 2 Thessalonians. He teaches out of 1 Thessalonians 1:1 and John 17. Christians have a hard time believing the gospel because we consistently drift into relying on our own works. But as believers, we are in Christ - meaning He has made us one and sons of God with him. 

This week, Pastor Matt teaches out of several New Testament passages in regards to giving. Because believers are no longer under the Mosaic covenant, tithing is not a biblical mandate for New Testament Christians. Why do we give then? It declares to us and others that this world is not our home. 

This week we celebrate the faithfulness of God working in and through Ovilla Road Baptist Church for the last 50 years. This week we welcome Dr. Nathan Lorick, the Executive Director for the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, to teach out of Acts 16 and encourage the church as we look forward to the next 50 years.

The book of Thessalonians was written to encourage the Church with the  bright hope for the future they have in Christ. The kingdom of darkness works one way, the kingdom of light turns it upside down.
