Our Biblical Hope

In this episode, we dive into 1 Peter 3:18—one of the clearest pictures of the gospel in all of Scripture. Phrase by phrase, we unpack how Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God, and how His death and resurrection give us both reconciliation and resurrection life.

There is a good suffering and a bad suffering. You get to choose which one you experience. From 1 Peter 3:17 we discover the type of suffering God blesses and find the hope that's available as we go through it.

What does it mean to have a good or clear conscience and how does it aid us in our effort to share the hope of the gospel with others?

Not only are we called to share the hope of Christ with gentleness but also respect. How can we grow in showing respect to people that we struggle to see eye to eye with and why is this such a big deal? Let's dive into the last part of verse 15 together!

Peter gives us two characteristics that should define how we speak to people when we are sharing the hope of the gospel. In this episode we dive into the first word, gentleness, and talk about what it means to show gentleness to others.

What is preparation and what is the best way we can really prepare to have gospel conversations. Peter shows us the answer isn't more information. It starts in your heart!

What does it mean to be zealous for doing good? Peter talks a litle more about righteous living, even when suffer because of it and gives us a reminder to not fear and be faithful in a faithless world.

The 4th and final key to the good life is to pray. God sees us and he excitedly hears our prayers. Except, Peter gives us one giant caveat that we need to understand before we go to God with our prayers.

In the 3rd key to the good life Peter challenges us not only to seek peace but pursue it. What is the difference between those two things and where can we ultimately find the peace we are looking for?

The second key to the good life is turning away from evil and doing good. What is your plan for turning away from evil and how can we be a part of doing goind in the lives of others today?

How can you experience the good life? Peter pulls out a quote from Psalm 34 to give us four key practices to incorporate into our life to make it full and meaningful .

Peter gives us a warning about getting even man's way. In contrast he shows what it looks like along with the benefits of blessing those who do us wrong.

In our conduct with other believers we are to have unity. In this verses, Peter talks about the 5 catalysts that will fuel unity amongst the church.

Now what does Peter have to say to husbands? How can the way husbands treat their wives affect their relationship with God? In one verse Peter paints a clear picture of how a godly husband should love his wife.

What does a pure and faithful wife look like? What role does her faith play in her husbands life, especially if he is an unbeliever? In these verses Peter paints a beautiful picture of a Godly wife who puts her hope in the Lord.

Here is why we can suffer well when treated unjustly... because Christ suffered for us and left us an example. Peter explains what this means and how it is a game changer for every believer.

What do we do when treated harshly by someone in authority. Can we really respond in a Christ-like way to unjust suffering? Peter gives us some encouragement in keeping our mind on Christ through the hard times.

What does it mean to submit to authorities? How can a Christ follower go about that in a world filled with ungodly leaders? Let's from Peter on this often overlooked aspect of serving God.

Our manner of life and behavior truly matters. Not just for our own spiritual health and life but to make the gospel appealing to non-believers. Let's break down what Paul is talking about here in verse 12.

What is the outflow of our identity in Christ? It is the doing of his will and abstaining from sinful desires. These desires are at war against our soul and so we must go to war to counter attack them because all they do is bring death and destruction in our life.

Peter drives home our identity in Christ by taking us back to our life before Christ and helping us so all that Christ has done for us. In doing this, we get a fuller picture who we really are and a greater appreciation for the Lord.

Now that we have seen who we are, what are we supposed to do? Proclaim his excellencies! In this episode we unpack what proclaiming looks like and what exactly the excellencies of God are to discover our purpose as followers of Christ.

For good or bad, when someone tells us something about ourselves, we listen. The words we choose to listen to will undoubtedly shape our identity. In one verse Peter tells us so much about our identity in Christ. Let this verse be what shapes who we are.
