Our Best Jackett

Hey guys, it's Scott. So, huge week ahead. We have our second Comic Writing 101 class. This one is all about voice, about finding your voice, about what voice is , about constructing voice in every book that you do, and it's one of my favorite classes that I teach. So, it's not too late to sign up at all. If you've ever wanted to take a comic writing class or a writing class in general, please sig...

Hey guys, it's Scott. Because it's Batman Day (or it will have been when you listen to this, it is today as I'm doing this recording), I thought maybe I'd do a little piece about what Batman has meant to me over the years, both in my personal life and in my creative life. And it's such a big question, because I think the strange thing about Batman is that he's always just been there and there's be...

[Apologies in advance for the audio quality during the first thirty seconds!] Hey guys, it’s Scott. I'm finally feeling better. Our family is better. Thank you guys so much for the well wishes, We all hugely appreciate them. Man, that cold really laid us low. I have to say, it's been quite a long time since I've been sick, given how hunkered down we've been. Yeah, it was not pleasant. Anyway, a co...

Hey guys, it's Scott! So, for this newsletter, I thought I'd give you an introduction to Scottober , which is the big launch we're doing with comiXology in October. Best Jackett, my studio, is partnered with comiXology to produce eight books. I’m writing all eight of them and I have amazing co creators on them. So, it should be called, instead of Scottober, all of our names put together, but that...

Hey guys, it's Scott. So much to discuss in this newsletter, I'm really excited! And just for starters, as a reminder, I'm going to email you guys newsletters Tuesday and Thursday. One newsletter will be for paid subscribers, and we'll have material for the class, Comic Writing 101. The other newsletter will be free, and will give you updates, teases, info on all the books we're doing, and my thou...

Hey guys, it’s Scott. So, really, really exciting day! Tonight is gonna be our first big test run of our Comic Writing 101 set up. So, just to be clear, it is not the first class. The first class where I will run through how we did Court of Owls as a kind of primer on the way a comic goes from idea all the way to the published page will be next week, Wednesday night. But just to make sure all of t...

Hey guys, it's Scott. And a couple quick things. So, so excited about the class. We’ve had way more people sign up than I ever expected. But there's still room and working to do a test run this week, so I'm gonna give it a shot—we’re gonna try Zoom on Thursday night. I think after the comic store closes, we’ll do a quick Q&A. So, if you're thinking about taking a comic class, if you've ever wanted...

Hey guys, it’s Scott. And I am waking up to an overwhelming amount of students for this class. I honestly cannot believe it. I am so so excited and grateful and cannot wait to get into that virtual classroom with you all. It's been way too long since I've been teaching, and I can't thank you enough for the opportunity to do it again—I’m gonna give it my all. I hope we have a real blast. And so, ag...

Hey, it’s Scott, and today I was gonna talk a little bit about American Vampire . Our final issue comes out, American Vampire 1976 #10, and I think it constitutes probably about our 50th or 60th issue. I’ve written about as much of this series as anything, even Batman , and I have such big feelings about it. American Vampire is the series that launched my whole comics career. It's the one that rea...

Okay here we go, right? Let's give this a shot! So, my name is Scott Snyder and I am recording in my studio, and this is going to be the format that we try out for this newsletter, where you can read it or you can listen to it almost podcast-style. I’m gonna do this at least a couple times a week. I’ll answer your questions probably one of those two times, the other time I’ll do teaching tips, tal...
