We like to make a special episode each June for our listeners who celebrate Pride Month by focusing our critical lens on a piece of media (be it anime, manga, or game) that puts LGBTQIA+ groups in the spotlight and this year we chose Wandering Son or Hourou Musuko, the story of a young trans woman and her transformation in her blooming years of middle school as she deals with love, drama, and frie...

We're back! It's so good to see you again here in the episode description part of your favorite podcasting app. I missed you. After a month long hiatus full of mental rest and repair, we thought the first thing we should do is immediately sour all goodwill by discussing which anime you really liked that was a huge let down. It's honestly not that great of a list but hey if you really like two spec...

Introducing in this episode: rampant violence! The winter months may be cold but the anime is (supposedly) fire enough to keep warm, right? We break down and discuss (in this order!) Akebi's Sailor Uniform, Sasaki and Miyano, World's End Harem, Sabakui Bisco, Love of Kill, and My Dress Up Darling because those were the shows we said we were gonna watch and at least one of us watched all six of the...

I was gonna call this episode a rehash on the old streaming episode but that would be too funny because, uh, someone showed up to record... hashed up? Is that what the cool kids say? The only drug I get high on is life (and antidepressants). We retread old ground on what we've already talked about before except now we live in an awkward future where Crunchyroll and Funimation have fused into what...

Remember when we did this with Himouto! Umaru-chan and Neo Yokio back in 2020? Of course you don't because we had only two listeners at the time and one of them was me making sure Craig didn't screw up our audio. Well, we're trading shows again except this time with the intent not to make the other person suffer! We've grown weak and flabby with the shame of a frail constitution if this is our beh...

Attack on Titan finally ends... except it doesn't again cause Final Season Part Three is on it's way in a year. At least it's not a movie, I guess. We talk the "final" episode of this part and give our tentative scores and complain about 60 hour work weeks all in one handy dandy episode! There's so much content in this episode that it's like you're getting two episodes in one except you aren't! Re...

It's the start of APRIL and we're kicking off a series covering a very underground anime and manga series. You might've heard of it before but I don't know. It's kind of indie. Anyways we were FOOLS not to start this franchise sooner and we regret it. YOU folks all requested it and we were STUPID not to listen until now. Well, none of you really requested it but we thought we'd be IDIOTS not to co...

A'ight, I know this is a week late and everyone has already talked this episode out but we're just so sensitive and hurt by all the events in this episode and we just needed some time to really process everything like these wild yet tender emotions that are running rampant in our hearts from this episode and also I got food poisoning. It was my first time! It's a beautiful battle at the boats in t...

You send out a distress beacon for peeps to talk Yu Yu Hakusho and you do, as it turns out, get peeps. This week we're joined with three special guests including two shonen specialists and a Chapter Black advocator so maybe it'll be an actual good episode, yeah? It will be. All three of these guys are great and you love them and it's a solid episode. It's a deeper trek into Yu Yu Hakusho as we dis...

Break out your VHS player and finally get that old tape of Disney's The Jungle Book unstuck from it's vice grip because we're rewinding the clock to review an anime classic! We're breaking down a marvelous major marvel of mecha in this week's episode which launched Hideaki Anno's career into the stars and super robot goodness into so many hearts! I love this show, my dudes. I'm not even gonna lie....

You know, now that we're almost at the end of the Attack on Titan journey (at least, I THINK we are) it really dawns on me that we probably should've just called this episode series something else. You can't Google ATTALK ON TITAN and expect to have it end up as a search result because Google will just think you have fat thumbs trying to type Attack. So many new friends lost that way. Speaking of...

[Warning: mild spoilers for the ending of Bleach if you care who Ichigo ends up with but you'll know it's coming] It's cannon vs. canon in this episode as we talk love... fictional anime love between fictional anime characters in fictional anime settings with fictional anime romance! Mostly. We talk our favorite fictional pairings that did and didn't happen like LeBron James x Bugs Bunny and that...

We talk about an episode with a lot of talking this week on ATTALK ON TITAN! Do we have as much to say as the characters in Attack on Titan had to say about each other? Not really. There was an awful lot of talking but does that mean this episode is all kinds of awful? Listen in (or don't I'm not your mom) and find out! As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www....

Special thanks to animeoftheweak for requesting this week's show! One of us certainly enjoyed it a lot more than the other but who was it!? Anyways, we're talking calligraphy, iyashikei, and Barack Obama impersonation in this week's episode where we cover Barakamon! Also demons. One of us is a demon apparently. As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www.otakumela...

Oh boy, it's another double feature due to poor planning and anxiety attacks! We're discussing two episodes this week and both are a part of the Connie villain arc! Truthfully, I don't really know what to put here. I'm tired. I recorded this episode somewhere different from normal and I didn't account for microphone mobility so my big head kept slamming into the mic so... there's some forehead act...

You got characters. You make them fight. This is the essence of the tournament arc and also little kids playing with their action figures but in this instance we're talking about the swole super veiny beefy muscles of the Dark Tournament arc from Yu Yu Hakusho. It's got a cool name but does it have the style to rock the pompadour and shirtless flair it throws at the viewers? We'll find out by disc...

WE'RE COVERING MORE ATTACK ON TITAN DO YOU LIKE US YET OR DO YOU DESPISE US SO MUCH NOW BECAUSE WE WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT AOT THAT WE'RE YOUR FAVORITE HATE LISTEN BECAUSE WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TITANS TO ATTACK AND WE MIGHT HAVE TO COVER A LIGHT NOVEL SOON AND THAT WAS HOW I KNEW THIS HAD GONE TOO FAR ANYWAYS THIS OVA IS ABOUT ANNIE AND MIKASA SO LIKE TWO OUT OF THREE OF THE BEST ATTACK ON TITAN GIRLS...

Attack on Titan went back to basics in this episode as we saw plenty of Tighty Fighty and "we gotta make some bad decisions" just like in the days of yore and Connie gets his own personal villain arc as he goes to help his mommy while the march continues (even if that march is at a wonderful 10 frames per second). After the hype beast that was the previous two episodes, can this we even hope to me...

I was originally gonna call this New New to Yu Yu but that sounded really dumb so I'm not going to do that (for now unless someone tells me it a good idea then I'll totally double down forever on it). Alright so you may be looking at this title and thinking "oh wow they're gonna talk about a longer anime for once that isn't Attack on Titan wow mom go get the presents out early cause it's a Christm...

Man, I would hate to be an enjoyer of this podcast and someone who doesn't enjoy Attack on Titan because it seems like that's the only content you've been getting lately, huh? We missed two weeks so here's a breakdown of two episodes becasue COVID isn't a joke and neither are those northern snowstorms. We discuss the continuing adventures of those wild wacky Jaeger brothers as they go back in time...

We show we have NO RAGERTS in this episode where we cover one of the most enticing Attack on Titan OVAs: No Regrets! Can an OVA that features the origin story of notorious best boy Levi be an absolute winner or is it too much of a good thing? We go back to a simpler time and see if this is an excellent addition to the Attack on Titan story or just Levi being hot for an hour. As always, check out n...

It's two years of OtaMel now, weeabros! We survived another year! Not that you would know it from listening to this episode because both of us are sick in this episode. Once again, we take an entire episode to reflect and read some mail and just sit around and talk about how great it is that we didn't give up for another year and maybe also discuss a little anime but I wouldn't grow too accustomed...

There's a lot to talk about in this episode including how Attack on Titan once again delivers a delicious meme in this episode with the introduction of mad as hell Yelena and whatever the hell that scary thing is in the opening. I'm slowly running late for work and typing this description while I try to talk to a vet so I'm just going to let you guys do the rest and make up your own description be...

Ay yo, we're back on the seasonal shenanigans. We're going over almost the entirety of MAL's Winter 2022 lineup and picking and choosing what we MIGHT be watching for our new seasonal review because nothing is set in stone and I don't feel like suffering through bad anime. It's like a seasonal draft pick or something for anime, I guess. I don't sport so maybe I'm wrong? I think I'm right. I know a...
