Otaku Melancholy

I mean, the description is in the title, right? And just so you know there is a spoiler section so don't worry about, you know, random spoilers or something. We talk Chainsaw Man which is practically like the anime version of The Beatles in that everyone knows about it and certain people have made it the whole of their personality but that's not a bad thing. OR IS IT? We break all that down and mo...

We're back! To talk about ourselves! It was another year of OtaMel and what a year it was between two hiatus and infinite solocast episodes but WE PERSISTED and that's all that matters, right? A D is a passing grade and all that. We are the bugs in your walls of anime podcasts or something similar to that. We break down some of the anime and content we made in this year and reflect on what we're g...

We all need motivation some times and so I chose some select anime quote that get me feeling pretty okay and just decided to read them out loud and talk about them! It's been a hard few weeks for us and the motivation to lead with your best foot forward can be so hard to find but hey! Some small sentiment of determination can be found in everything even anime! Just always try your best. I hope you...

It's another week of just me, myself, and I as hosts of the podcast so I really struggled to just come up with something to talk about but I've recently started reading Ranma 1/2 and thought to myself that I really really do like Rumiko Takahashi's manga especially Maison Ikkoku so I just went ahead and talked about it in a spoiler free discussion. Maybe you'll get something out of it and gather u...

Spooky anime! Japanese curses! Umbrellas! Is Another even really that scary? We talk all that and more (but mostly more) in this episode! As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to see all our links including our social media and join the Discord at https://discord.gg/rUHYUyW to continue the conversation! It might be kind of late to give some impressions but we're talking about the Fall 2022 seasonals that we're checking out anyways! Audrey is watching THREE WHOLE SHOWS! It's like a high score among high scores! We also talk about what we've been doing too. In case you care. I hope you care. I care about you. Friendly reminder that this is a mature podcast for mature people who are mature and do ma...

It's a trashed episode that was turned into a Patreon exclusive that's been turned into a regular episode again! It's a wonderful butterfly of a piece of podcast content! We couldn't record this week but we had to have something so here's the something! Light novels are an ever looming threat (I think) to anime and must be treated with respect and dignity and sincere thoughtful consideration but i...

This Atlanta sure has a lot of anime weekend, huh? I said AWA so much this weekend that it started to sound wrong and I had to doubt that I had a grasp of the English vernacular and language. One of us went to AWA and one of us had to talk about it so here it is! One of us talking about it for about forty minutes or so? Maybe thirty? Time is an illusion. Break free of the shackles of allowing time...

The wheel giveth and the wheel taketh. The wheel be taketh-ing an awful lot lately as we discuss the recently finished anime My Stepmom's Daughter is My Ex! It's not quite Domestic Girlfriend and it's not quite Scum's Wish either so what even is it? It's mid is what it is but you won't know that for sure unless you listen to this episode and get our opinions on it. Well, you could watch it yoursel...

Visual novels! They exist and we play them. Sometimes. With the recent (well recent when we recorded this) rejection and then reacceptance of Chaos;Head Noah on Steam, we thought maybe we'd talk about that! What does this mean for the medium of visual novels in the west and what even is a visual novel? We break down most of that and more this week! BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR SPONSOR BOOMSLANK FEATUR...

[Spoiler Warning Included in the Episode!] It's a Cyberpunk Edgerunners review and discussion, chooms! I don't got much else to tell ya unless you got the eddies for it. As you can tell by my hip lingo, I'm kind of a big deal in Night City. We discuss and review the latest and greatest(?) Trigger anime this week so join us and be sure to delta out to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to see a...

"If the anime boobies be floppin' then you know the show is probably not gonna be rockin'" is the old saying and we're out to see if that's true with our review of High School of the Dead! Is this zombie show really a classic or is the universe collectively playing a game trick on everyone by making this one of the most popular anime out there? We dive into that question (but not for very long) an...

I'm not saying we have filler episodes or anything but this? It's kinda filler-ish. Filler-esque even. Audrey's on a personal break this week due to being a very good supportive partner so we couldn't cover High School of the Dead like we planned but we gotta put something out and OH NO it's Saturday so I decided I'd discuss a little bit about growing up with anime and all those mixed experiences...

We get in touch with our romantic side in this week's episode as we discuss the coming of age middle school romance anime: Tsuki ga Kirei! One of us has a VERY high opinion of this series but does that actually mean anything when you haven't seen in it in three years? It doesn't. We break down our thoughts and feelings on young love and why it doesn't mean anything and how you'll probably never re...

Bruh, how do I even describe the Tatami Galaxy??? I'm getting super bad at doing these descriptions lately. Go watch the Tatami Galaxy! As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to see all our links including our social media and join the Discord at https://discord.gg/rUHYUyW to continue the conversation! Fun fact: we both have colds during this episode! It's a Mob Psycho 100 review. You're going to listen in or you're not going to listen in. I don't know how to sell this to you in the episode description. Maybe listen to it at 2x speed for an extra burst of fun since we both sound a little dead. As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to se...

Flash back to 2020. What were you doing back then? Trying to bake bread or grow some beans or some other superfluous plant in your house while you waited the pandemic out like the rest of us? I know what we were doing. We were talking about a certain siscon anime until suddenly someone's computer didn't process their audio correctly and left us with half an audio file. Now, thanks to the marvels o...

Audrey's back after a THREE MONTH HIATUS (wow) and so she got to pick all our content this month in a celebration I am definitely calling Audgust! It's a combination of Audrey and August. Do you get why that's great? It's also basically going to be ONE month as we cover One Punch Man this week and some other show based off a manga of his (Mab Psychosis or something) during this month long celebrat...

WHAT EVEN ARE DEADLINES I DON'T CARE THIS EPISODE CAME OUT ON TIME YOU CAN'T PROVE ME WRONG. Anime is a hobby in itself but it's a hobby that can create other hobbies as you watch other people do hobbies that make you think "man I wish I had another hobby that was like the hobby that these hobbyists are currently hobbying on about in this hobby anime" and thus you pursue that other hobby from your...

My audio sounds off cause we had to use the Discord Craig's recording of my audio so it's not going to sound super fantastic but it could be nonexistent! It's already late to release and all. The fresh spring breeze washes over the winter chill and delights us anew as the blooms of seasonal anime come forth in a rainbow of all sorts of colors and KAGUYA AND KOMI ARE BACK BAYBEE AND THAT'S ALL THAT...

I thought that making a podcast into three acts so I could focus on everything appropriately was a good idea and then the episode became 2 hours long so, uh, enjoy. Anime video games! Since the dawn of man, man has wished to become more like anime and less like a person so they invented video games but oh wait these games have no waifus (unless you like 8 bit Princess Peach I'm not gonna judge you...

New style of opening! It's SUPPOSED to sound like that! It's art! Yep, I mispronounce "rurouni" a lot in this episode so get ready for that. We explore the classics of anime OVAs in this new series: The VHS Ventures! We're kicking it off with the samurai classic Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal that serves as a prequel for the franchise! Is it good? YE BOI AND I DON'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT. Prepare...

You ever say "oh man this anime is gonna be MID" and then lo and behold the anime was not, in fact, mid? It turns out that it was actually something revolutionary and life changing for you in such a way that it became iconoclastic in just how much it reformed your thoughts on anime. Yeah, that's what this episode is about. It's not really about that. I lied. I just need to fill up this episode des...
