Ordinary Sherpa: Family Adventure Coaching and Design

After exploring the world and embracing adventure often in my teens and twenties, I realized the shift to motherhood and a professional career was threatening the amount of adventure that showed up in my life. I responded by reframing the destination to a journey. These simple and authentic adventure experiences had a noticeable impact on every member in t...

057 | Wintering: Rest, Challenge, Escape 29.12.2021

I heard an interview the other day with English writer Katherine May which introduced me to the term Wintering.   I drew this quote from the Book Reads description of her book  Wintering The power if rest and retreat.  "Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times. May models an active acceptance of sadness and finds nourishment in deep retreat, joy in the hushed...

056 | Are you a Rogue Learner? with Jenna Reich 22.12.2021

As I sit on the platform about to jump into 2022 with a bit of hesitation and bit of unrelenting eagerness I find myself coming out of an overwhelmed and demanding November schedule only to jump into escape and retreat mode in early December. In addition to my workload, I sent my book to the editor, the kids were in the thick of all the not-fun parts of school.  We created some much needed family...

052 | Living a Location Independent Lifestyle with Rachel Richards 24.11.2021

I did a thing this week, I sent my book to the editor.   In some ways it feels like a major step on a new and uncomfortable experience. Writing a book has been on the long life list of things I wanted to do someday. I know this isn't the summit. The manuscript will come back in a couple weeks marked and dismantled, but I am excited for that. It means someone else is going to see something I spent...

050 | 1Yr Thank You Party and Ask a Sherpa Reveal 10.11.2021

049 | Becoming the Youngest AT Thru-Hiker with Josh & Cassie (Harvey) Sutton 03.11.2021

Hello to Iceland and Denmark.  Ordinary Sherpa ranked in the top 200 in both countries.  Which is fun, because I have not been to Iceland, but glad to know that my podcast has. Maybe we can do a virtual meet-up and share a cup of coffee. I want to thank those who bought me coffee, who left written reviews, and took action to do something adventurous this week.     Will you leave Written Review on...

047 | Opportunities from Adventure with Mason Gravley 20.10.2021

047 | Opportunities from Adventure  with Mason Gravley   Our theme this week is the doors that open because of adventure.  THIS. (Soapbox warning) this is the reason we need to stop treating adventure like a destination we visit 2 weeks out of the year, and more about a part of the overall journey.  I have lots of thoughts on this and hope this podcast helps you see the value proposition of advent...

046 | Making Crazy Decisions with your Partner 14.10.2021

After a summer of adventure with 27 non-adventure days the return to routine was needed but also a bit stifling so we have spent the last few weekends adventuring and unplugged.  I am in the midst of finishing the book I am writing and need less distractions.  I went into airplane mode only using my phone for photos on the weekends and taking a social media and podcast pause.  Ironically it just s...

045 | Learning to Swim with Marissa of the Michael Phelps Foundation 29.09.2021

Happy National Coffee Day (if you are listening to this episode when it drops on Wednesday, September 29th).  I would gladly celebrate coffee any day of the year. I am currently enjoying a Hawaiian Coffee and am a bit hooked after our 3 weeks on the islands in summer of 2021.  Personally, I think the world could use a little more conversations over coffee with friends these days.  I chuckle a bit...

040 | Interim Expat with Scott Barrett 26.08.2021

The concept of "exposure therapy" can help expose you to blind spots of what is possible.  Sometimes that means practicing being uncomfortable.  Two examples this week were having her kids run in the rain, and getting out of the comfortable passenger seat and be a little uncomfortable in the driver seat of the 30+ foot RV.  If you want to practice simple ways to experience adventure and get a litt...
