Open Phil Broadcast

Somebody who used to come to Open Phil YEARS ago found his way back to the open mic, and has never before been on the Open Phil Broadcast!  Wooohooooo!!!  So, yeah, that's the thing.  Today, we got Despot Tomić , a prolific singer/songwriter from Bosnia living in Vienna.  Tune in for this intimate conversation and hear him play his songs LIVE!

I met Davud from Mannequin P at a gallery where he was opening for an artist. I was shocked to hear it was his first time playing for an audience, so I invited him onto the show to talk about his craft.

For our fiftieth episode the tremendous Sia Vaiz comes to the studio and answers a lot of questions we have about her and her music. We've probably never asked this many questions before. Enjoy!

Local Vienna punk-rock anti-folk legends Select/Reject came to the studio and turned up the volume in ways not previously turned on this show. We had a fantastic time with them and can't wait to see them play again at the open mic or around town.

This month local band Kellerblume came to the studio with their new bass player and serenaded us!

This month Lavy und die Kraken came to the studio. These whimsical songs about self-reflection and relationships are in German and the interview is in English.

For the 40th episode we reconnect with an old friend who brings her partner Adam Lampert to us from Berlin. Cozy up by the fire with this acoustic episode.

This month the Indie-Pop duo Schikaneder, from Vienna, joins me and performs some of their German songs for us. We talk about song-writing, how they met, and even get treated to a brand new song, never before aired!

The J423 Community Band from Vienna came to Phil's studio to spread the message of fellowship, music, and spiritual faith. We talked about songwriting, J423, and all the members which came to be a part of this episode! We've never had this many people on the show at once.

Ka The Shaking Gravel was in the studio working on their upcoming EP when I asked if they felt like recording an episode of the Open Phil Broadcast. This is, literally, the most spontaneous episode we've ever done.

This month two stars from the underground scene (literally, the subway) teleported into the studio to slay down some tracks. No edits. No re-takes. This month Felician joins us before his appearance at Open Phil as the monthly featured act.

This month Hayden Arp came by the studio and played some of his mesmerising songs. We talked about his move to Austria and what it's like working as a professional musician in a new country.

Local Vienna songwriters We Like Women dropped by SkyStudio this month. For this episode we attempted to use as many Austrian Audio microphones as we could muster up. Main vocals we recorded using the OC818, backing vocals using the OD505. We also put our other OC818 on the supporting guitar. Our host Phil also used the OD505 for this episode, and loved it!

This month the new young band DuoLia. came by SkyStudio and blew us away with the heartfelt songs and melodies. We think this is one of the best acts we've seen in a long long time in this town.

This month we had the young brother and sister duo JLP visit us in the studio.
