Every year Oldham Lane hosts a camp for young men, ages 14 through 18, who show an interest in preaching and leadership. The week-long camp concludes with the students being sent out to preach at various congregations in and around Abilene. You can watch/listen to wo of the campers, Kent and Caleb Cates, who delivered their sermons at Oldham Lane.

We often think of discipleship as ME plus JESUS or ME and JESUS, which equals the two of us. But that’s the wrong arithmetic. The proper equation is ME + JESUS = JESUS. This higher math involves subtraction, not addition. This isn’t about adding Jesus to my life. This is about Jesus becoming my life.

Throughout the Bible, from Old Testament and throughout the New, we see fasting as a practice engaged in by God’s people. Any other practice that we find so prevalent throughout scripture we would agree must be followed, so why not this one?

Many people want to be saved, yet insist that Christ do all the dying. Like the Geico commercial, that’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works. You cannot be king and subject at the same time. You must forfeit your will and allow God to assume His rightful place on the throne of your heart.
