In the midst of wickedness, fear, and unrighteous behavior, God works to maintain his promises to the family and Abraham and to give future hope by revealing Judah’s softening heart.

God’s sovereign plan for saving his people begins in an unexpected and tragic way: the mistreatment of Joseph as he is sold by his brothers into slavery.

God gives Joseph dreams of his future role which will save his family, but this future promise is threatened by present jealousy, favoritism, and hatred. 

When the church is filled with the fullness of God, this will be naturally expressed in the ever-expanding mission of God to the world.

We are stewards of God’s church; is it our calling to invest in his work through participating as Christ’s body.

We are stewards of God’s gift of life; it is our responsibility to believe in and defend the sanctity of human life.

We are stewards of God’s physical and financial resources; it is our joy to think rightly about these resources and use them appropriately for God’s purposes. 

We are stewards of God’s design for mankind; it is our challenge to promote a biblical worldview in the midst of a culture that rejects God’s best.

We are stewards of God’s opportunities; it is our blessing to make the most of the time given to us.

Because of the person and work of Jesus, we are free to offer ourselves as gifts to him, and thereby experience the abundant life he offers.

Christmas Eve at Northwest

The wise men’s gift of myrrh reminds us of Jesus’s humanity; because he is human, he can give us the gift of ultimate forgiveness. 

The wise men’s gift of frankincense reminds us of Jesus’s divinity; because he is God, he can give us the gift of a restored relationship.

The wise men’s gift of gold reminds us of Jesus’s kingship; because he is king, he can give us the gift of true peace.

Although not in the line of promise, Esau was a descendent of Isaac and thus God blessed Esau with an abundant family and heritage.

After Jacob resettles in the land of Canaan and fulfills his vow, God reaffirms his promises to Jacob and blesses him and his future generations.

When their sister is violated, the sons of Jacob respond with deception and violence.

Jacob, having encountered and committed himself to God, becomes a conduit for grace and forgiveness in his reunion with Esau.

After a lifetime of decisions meant to maintain a sense of personal control, Jacob is brought to a point of brokenness to realize the blessings he has always desired are found only in the Lord and are attained through giving up control to him.

Having been blessed by God, Jacob responds to God’s call to return to Canaan and experiences divine protection on the journey fleeing Laban.

Jacob implements a program to become wealthy and prosperous, but it is the Lord fulfilling his promises to Jacob which truly brings Jacob success.

Even though Jacob’s family was filled with envy, conflict, and favoritism, the Lord blessed Jacob by fulfilling the Lord's promises of abundant offspring.

The Lord’s presence with Jacob is exemplified as he arrives in Haran and begins to experience that he must reap the deception he has sowed.

As Jacob leaves the promised land to escape the wrath of Esau and find a wife in Paddan-aram, God appears to Jacob to reassure Jacob of God’s unconditional promises.

Although Jacob is successful at deceiving Isaac to receive his blessing, the consequences of a life of control begin to stack up against Jacob and his family.
