Jesus creates controversy on a Sabbath to encourage his followers to share God's priorities.

Clearly, faith is the message of this story. When we respond to the storms of life with a “right-sized” faith, we have nothing to fear.

Jesus travels to the Decapolis and demonstrates he is the Lord who is powerful over the forces of evil.

As the book of Genesis closes, Joseph blesses his brothers with his confident assertion that God sovereignly works all things for his good purposes.

Before he dies and is gathered to his people, Jacob gathers his sons and provides one final word of blessing which will, in turn, shape their tribal destinies.

The apostle Paul demonstrated how a church can mature when its members exemplify the heart of a mother. 

Jacob demonstrates a heart of faith as he elevates Joseph to the prominent status among the sons of Jacob by blessing Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasseh.

Through honesty and faithful stewardship, Joseph ensures his family settles in the best of Egypt, Jacob blesses Pharaoh, and Joseph saves the Egyptian people as the famine grows more severe.

Joseph and Jacob are tearfully reunited when God affirms Joseph’s request to move the family to Egypt by assuring Jacob that God’s promises will be fulfilled through this time of sojourning. 

When Judah demonstrates loyalty to Jacob and Benjamin by being willing to sacrifice himself, Joseph is able to reveal himself to his brothers to express forgiveness and communicate a greater sense of hope in God’s sovereign plan.

The risen Christ provides a foundation of faith when we are tempted to fear.

The willing sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for us bought us forgiveness and a right relationship with God.

Joseph’s brothers return to Egypt to buy more grain, and Joseph uses the presence of his brother Benjamin (Jacob’s new favored son) to test the brothers’ sense of jealousy and maturity.

When Joseph’s brothers travel to Egypt to buy grain during the famine, God works through Joseph to awaken their consciences and expose their guilt over sinning against Joseph when they sold him into slavery.

After years of preparation, God sovereignly works his plan to demonstrates his power and have Joseph promoted from prisoner to second-in-command of all Egypt.

Even as he was forgotten in prison, Joseph remained true to God’s vision for his life of leadership, service, and faithfulness.

The Lord was with Joseph as the Lord gave success to Joseph to Potiphar’s house and as Joseph faced the injustice of Potiphar’s wife’s accusations.
