Ice cream (disquiet0452) 28.08.2020

I recorded a short scream and started looping, slowing and speeding up. There was some added background noise from a random classical radio station picked up by the Fieldkit and I added a simple looped line to break up the sound of my screams. More on this 452nd weekly Disquiet Junto project, Let’s Scream (The Assignment: Get cathartic. Be resilient. Turn your scream into music), at: https://disqu...

Instead Of Waiting(disquiet0448) 01.08.2020

I used 2 d10s to select albums, and then two d20s to select the track. I rolled 2,3 and 2,16 which meant both tracks came from Sevenism's 777minus1. Wait was an undulating piano arpeggio slowing to a sustained chord and "What We Do Instead" which was a cluster of delayed plucks. The tracks were fed through Spacecraft on the iPad and crossfaded with the originals bookending the track. More on this...

Those That Matter (disquiet 0442) 19.06.2020

I like the phrase “Those that mind don’t matter, those that matter don’t mind”. It’s a mantra that helps me weather attacks of social anxiety. When you say it out loud repeatedly it takes on a call and response rhythm. I recorded myself chanting it and fed it through the resonator setting on a Monsoon with modulation On the harmonics to get a stringy pluck and then overdubbed with another instance...

Messing around with the Spitfire Audio felt piano samples on the Disting EX Alpha. Just a 16 step pattern from Numerology controlling pitch and gate whilst twiddling with the chord shapes and arpeggio range

2020ice (disquiet0418) 04.01.2020

I think this my 7th or 8th time I’ve taken part in the annual junto ice challenge. It is interesting to think how my approach to music making has changed over the years. Back in 2012 I was messing around with loops in Acid and circuit bending old toys. I started to experiment with hardware and software modular environments and gradually used my laptop less and less in favour of an iPad. Currently...

Waxcap (disquiet0416) 21.12.2019

I tackled this project by using apeMatrix to record and reverse layers of mirack and ruismaker noir patches. The patches were mostly little generative sequences and I improvised by tinkering around with the virtual knobs. I kinda got lost with all the reversing and overdubbing and have lost a few hours on the sofa happily prodding my MaxiPad. More on this 416th weekly Disquiet Junto project — Time...

Resonator(disquiet0401) 08.09.2019

i patched up a mother 32's noise output and had a Dfam modulating the envelope and cutoff to create rhythmic hisses and thuds. This was then sent into a resonator plugin and I jammed along with a micro freak. Disquiet Junto Project 0401: Noise Pacing The Assignment: Use background noise as a beat, as a rhythm. This project is the third and final of a series being done in collaboration with Musikfe...

Precipitate(disquiet398) 16.08.2019

I took some recordings of rain and wind and messed around with time stretching and delays. I also mixed in a reaktorblocks patch which added some squalls and thuds. Disquiet Junto Project 0398: Rauschen Bern The Assignment: Make music by making a collage of noises. Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the German word “rauschen.” Understand that “rauschen” is noise in the sense of white noise, waterfa...

AteOhAte (disquiet0397) 10.08.2019

I used a TR-8 for this project, not quite a TR 808 but allegedly close enough. Played around with different patterns, initially with a 3/4 pattern but it seemed lacking without a monolithic 4/4 808 kick. So this live take is the one, no other sound sources other than the TR-8 being mixed through Eventide Ultratap. Disquiet Junto Project 0397: Numbers Racket The Assignment: It’s 808 Day. Do it up....
