No Kids No Pain

Romina and Luca don’t have guests for this episode, so they take this opportunity to discuss how it is easier for child-free people to plan everyday life, from daily chores to travelling abroad. There is always a chance to be called selfish, but the freedom you get in exchange is worth the price.

It’s Christmas time again! This is our second one and Romina and Luca talk about how enjoying Christmas with their families in Italy. From what is the best present for the kids to the kids table on Christmas day. Which menu will they go for? Italian or British? And obviously they could not miss to mention the traditional Italian cakes too!

This is a special episode in which Romina and Luca don’t have a guest, and the topic is, for once, not strictly about being child-free. The US elections have just happened and Donald Trump is being elected president again: Luca and Romina try to process the news and cope with the idea of a future where women, disabled, immigrants and childfree feel particularly targeted.

Romina and Luca welcome a new guest this episode: fellow Italian, British and American comedian John Vincent. John and his fiancée are already the proud parents of a pair of cats, but now that they are planning their wedding, they would like to become parents. According to John, once you find the right person, then it becomes almost natural to consider parenthood.

In this episode Romina and Luca chat with fellow comedian Ben Lund-Conlon. Ben doesn’t have kids, but he’s open to the possibility of becoming a father. Among the other topics, they comment on an article about a restaurant in Georgia, USA, where parents are charged extra if their kids don’t “behave”.

Our guest in this episode is an Italian expat and actress, Federica Bonomi: she is currently childless, but she is very open to having kids, although at the moment she hasn't found the right partner yet. Alex claims to passionately dislike children, but he doesn’t like old people too… In this lively chat, he tells us about his childhood, his upbringing, his marriage and the reasons that made him choose not to have kids.

Romina and Luca welcome another great guest: Mel Byron, a comedian, writer and speaking coach. Mel got married in her 40s and she and her husband are happily childfree: as Mel explains, becoming parents when you are already in your 40s can be disruptive and she is happy to enjoy her childfree life. They also talk about extended families, Catholicism and stepchildren. 

The guest of this episode is another friend of Romina and Luca: Giacinto Palmieri, an Italian and British comedian, IT expert and an expert in translation studies (he has a PhD on this subject!). Despite being a “jack of all trades”, Giacinto thinks that he doesn’t possess the skills to be a father: he is messy, disorganised and wants to be the centre of attention, in a way he is a kid himself :) 

Romina and Luca welcome their third guest: it is the brilliant and talented Victoria Howden, musical comedian based in London. Victoria and her wife are child-free: among other things, she talks about her choice and about her native country, Israel, where citizens are strongly ecouraged to make babies.

After Luca's wife, this week it's Romina's partner turn. They talk about his child-free life and how and when he decided not to have kids.

The idea that being child-free is not something to be ashamed of is becoming more and more popular and mainstream. An example of this is a recent comedy video by Chelsea Handler (A Day in the Life of a Childless Woman), which became viral but has also caused a lot of reactions (usually from men).

Inspired by an article about a brid barring her 12-year-old niece from her wedding, Romina and Luca talk about weddings and children: kids can be disruptive at times, but Luca's wife had a brilliant idea on how to invite families with children and still celebrate without a hitch.

A recent newspaper article about child-free pubs and restaurant prompts Luca and Romina to talk again about this topic that is proving increasingly popular. The discussion spans through time and space, as they talk about creating child-free zones in some cities in South Korea and the times when in the UK kids couldn’t enter a pub. 

Luca and Romina talk about the privilege of being aunt and uncle, rather than parents. Child-free uncles and aunties can be a bridge between parents and their kids: they are adults like the parents, but don’t have to be as strict and can be cool!

Luca has watched the Barbie movie and he talks about it with Romina. In their chat, they cover a wide range of topics, from dolls and toys to patriarchy, motherhood and childhood memories.

If you want to enjoy a cup of coffee or a good meal, you're probably wary of any place with prams, crying babies, or toddlers running around. But is it possible to have child-free restaurants or coffee places? Or is it all down to common sense and attentive parents?

Sometimes politicians propose to make child-free people pay some extra taxes. Romina and Luca aren’t happy with that and talk about the birthrate and the general issue of immigration (spoiler: they are very much in favour of immigration).

Romina and Luca get “inspired” by a Twitter rant: a mum wrote a furious tweet because she was at Disneyland with her kid and there were plenty of adults - without kids - enjoying the park. Are childfree people allowed to spoil their inner children? 

A listener’s suggestion prompts this episode’s topic. Romina and Luca talk about the idea of someone making sacrifices for their kids. But if you are doing something that makes you happy (whether is raising a kid or pursuing a career in your dream job - or both), is that really a sacrifice? 

In this episode, Romina and Luca are inspired by a listener’s email. She is child-free and her honest, deep reason is that a man seems to be the least suitable person to have a child with. Is it true that, as they say, girls become women and boys become big boys?
