Paul is stuck in a Roman prison - a death sentence to many - and here he is praying not for himself, but for his church in Ephesus. God has a lot to say about who you are and he uses Paul in a letter written from prison to be a manifesto on the believer's new reconciled identity in Christ. Most of what you normally do isn't a result of conscious choices but of daily HABITS. That's why if you want to change where you're going in life, you have to change your HABITS. In the Christian world we might call them our "disciplines".

Your words have POWER! Power to give life or power to take life. Power to "pierce" or power to "heal". Take an audit of your own words. How do you talk to others? How do you talk to YOURSELF? A small change in this area of your life could make a HUGE difference.

One of the prophecied names of Jesus, "Wonderful Counselor" gives hope of a perfect God who not only sympathizes with us in every way but comes to give real help to real people.

The temptation to be offended is an ongoing battle. The evil one would like nothing more than to have a church full of Christians who can barely make eye contact with each other because of hurts, either perceived or real. The prescription for this is simple (not easy, but simple).

There is a silent predator behind almost every broken church, broken family and toxic workplace. This predator leaves behind a trail of wounded hearts. We are so used to it's presence that we don't even recognize him. It is the Spirit of Offence.

Sometimes we put a lot of pressure on people to be "saving" people. Isn't that evangelism after all? To A-B-C... Always Be Closing the deal? Nope. The pressure is off. We can trust God the Father with the results because ultimately He is the best evangelist... "No one can come to me (Jesus) unless the Father who sent me draws that person in".

There's a temptation among Christians to isolate ourselves... keep ourselves "safe" and protected from the culture, but Jesus invites us to actually mix and mingle with those who need hope the most. After all, Jesus said, "I came for the sinners, not the righteous... it's the sick who need a doctor, not the healthy".

Could one of Jesus' most profound acts of compassion and ministry be his tender touch?

What if one of the best ways to take Jesus outside of the church and into the real world was simply to be a good neighbour. It's really hard to love someone well though if you don't even know their name.

Taking the good news outside our church building doesn't have to be scary or confrontational or "weird". Try something like B.E.L.L.S. B - BEGIN with prayer.
