Christians are defined by their love for one another. In this sermon from John 13:33-35 Pastor Austin teaches about how the church must seek to love one another and it is by this love for one another that people will know we are disciples of Jesus. 

In his final words to the early Hebrew church the author makes one final appeal, bear the exhortation. He has written the letter, the exhortation has been given and now he calls the hears to bear the word of exhortation. To bear the exhortation and believe that Jesus is supreme. To bear the exhortation and persevere with faith. to bear the exhortation and heed the warnings to not abandon Jesus. 

As the author of Hebrews comes to a conclusion he requests prayer and he prays for the Hebrew church. In this request for prayer we see an example of how we too should live with a clear conscience and honorable in all things. In the prayer for the church, we learn that the God of peace has equipped us with everything good to do his will. 

In Hebrews 13:17 a command is given to obey and sumbit to the leaders of the church. In this sermon Pastor Austin expounds on this command and what it means for the church.

In Hebrews 12:28 the author tells us to offer to God acceptable worship and now in chapter 13 he teaches us what is acceptable. He begins with three external actions, actions that we extend to others such as brotherly love, hospitality, and suffering with those who are suffering. And when we live these actions out we are living in worship of God. 

God has spoken to us through his Son Jesus Christ. And that which he has spoken through Jesus is the good news of salvation, the gospel and we must not refuse the one who speaks. Those that obey the one who speaks by believing in the gospel of Jesus will then belong to an unshakeable kingdom. Mt. Zion is better. The early Hebrew church was struggling to continue following Jesus and the author is now encouraging them to and showing them that they have not come to Mt. Sinai but rather have come to Mt. Zion, the city of God, heavenly Jerusalem! We are already in Mt. Zion but not yet, and one day when Christ returns all His people will be with Him in glory, in Mt. Zion. 

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ on that third day we as humanity have no hope. But because Christ did the unthinkable and rose from the grave overcoming sin and death we can now have hope when we believe in Jesus and repent of sins. 

While running the race as Christians there are going to be times where we become weary but we must lift our drooping hands, strengthen our weak knees, make straight our paths, strive for peace and holiness and just keep running. All the while, our brothers and sisters in Christ are watching over us and cheering us along. May we never stop running. 

Discipline is not a word that many like to hear but in this passage from Hebrews 12:4-11 the author teaches how God utilizes suffering for disciplining (teaching and educating, not punishment) His children. As a matter of fact the Father's discipline is beneficial because it comforts them, reminding them they are His children and secondly because it is for their good. 

The Christian life is a marathon and we are called to run the race with endurance. Hebrews 12:1-3 offers three encouragements to run the race set before us and they are learning from the examples set before us, laying aside weight and sin, and lastly, looking to Jesus. 

In this final section of chapter 11 the author completes his list of faithful people of old who have been commended through their faith. He expounds on how they were empowered by faith, marked by faith, and commended by faith which is all results of those that live by faith. 

Trusting God can be challenging to do when it feels like the world is against you. This is exactly the situation the early Hebrew church was in. The author here demonstrates how Moses' parents, Moses himself, the people of Israel at the Red Sea, the army of Israel at the walls of Jericho, and even Rahab the prostitute all by faith considered God trustworthy. 

Having faith in God means that we are considering Him to be faithful to His Word and promises. In this sermon we see Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph all consider God faithful and trust in His promises. They lived by faith by being obedient and trusting God until death. 

Can we as humans please God? Only by faith can we please God. In this passage in demonstrating to this early Hebrew Church to persevere by faith, the author begins illustrating to them people of old who pleased God because they had faith in God. 

What is faith? In this sermon from Hebrews 11:1-2 Pastor Austin seeks to expound on what faith is. Faith is the assurance of things hoped, faith is the conviction of things not seen, and faith is how people are commended. Faith matters and the object of that faith must be none other than Jesus Christ. 

Christians are going to face suffering and persecutions in their lives at some point because they follow Jesus. When these sufferings and persecutions come they must endure with faith by remembering the confidence they have in Jesus and the salvation He gives. 

In Hebrews 10:26-31 the author presents to us a warning. A warning to not go on sinning deliberately because those that do, there no longer remains for them a sacrifice for sins and judgment is expected. The reality is, the one who goes on sinning after having a moment in their life where they received the knowledge of truth they desecrate the sacrifice of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, and the Spirit...

After spending the first 10 chapters describing to us who Christ is and how He is greater the author transitions in Hebrews 10:19 to teaching us how to live in response to who Christ is. In Hebrews 10:19-25 we are exhorted to live by drawing near to God, holding fast the confession of our hope, and by stirring one another to love and good works through meeting together.
