Calm, warm night and a nightingale. The crystal clear tone of the night is enchanting. One of the best moments in the spring.

Spring night in april. Ice cover has melt and migrating black-throated loons (Gavia arctica) spend night in the lake. Every now and then Loon pairs announce their presence to each others in dark night. Crane couple joins in this midnight call.

Mid march can be still full winter. But for the northern long-eared owl it is spring. After returning from wintering areas couples settle for suitable spruce stand. Mysterious sounds in warm summer night can be really confusing. What in earth can make such a strange sounds. The Blyth's reed warbler (Acrocephalus dumetorum) sings peacefully in short light summer midnight. It is considered one of the best singers. The song is full of imitations of other birds. Some sounds are familiar but some sounds are strange and excotic. It has learned them from birds of wintering countries India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Nice greetings from far Asia.

Sunny april morning. Blackbird (Turdus merula)sings actively on the top of tree. It's one of the best singers of spring. There can be also heard European robin (Erithacus rubecula), Eurasian bittern or great bittern (Botaurus stellaris) and common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus).

Crystal clear sunny and cold morning in march. Temperature – 10 degrees Celsius. Woodpeckers are very excited, sprig has begun! Birds drum to declare their territory and all loud sound making objects will do. Rumble noise in backround comes from freezing ice cover of near lake.

The Eurasian wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) and cuckoo sing in summer forest. Bumble bees fly around searching flowers. Quiet rustle comes from insects on ground vegetation.

Warm and lazy midsummer morning. Birds aren’t very active any more and air is full of insects humming sound. Cuckoo makes its last call of the summer and black bird do not even try to sing full song. Singing season of birds is about to end.

At spring time hundreds of European Common frogs (Rana temporaria) gather together in small bonds and ditches for breeding. Their croaking sound is typical soundscape in spring wetlands.

Early spring morning in the wet meadow. The common snipe (Gallinago gallinago) flies around and make its funny sound by vibrating tail feathers. The finnish name Sky Goat describes well the sound it makes. Common and Moor frogs are vocal with lots of birds: European robin, Fieldfares, Eurasian bittern and Ural owl.

Spring deciduous forest wakes up. Thrush nightingale (Luscinia luscinia), common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) and Eurasian blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) are vocal with many other birds.

The thrush nightingale (Luscinia luscinia) sings at warm spring night. It’s crystal clear, loud and beautiful song echoes from the barn wall. In northern Europe summer spring nights won’t get dark at all and therefore nightingale continues singing from dusk to dawn. Some sheep make noise in the barn walking around.

Sunny warm late summer morning in August. Morning dew drops make sound on near tin roof. Common crane (Grus grus) couple make its morning call and European robin (Erithacus rubecula) ticking calls. On background can be heard common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) cooing and rooster.

Midnight chorus by the lake. Sedge warblers are loud, male European cuckoo sings from near forest and Blyth's reed warbler from shoreline bushes. Garden warbler and Eurasian bittern can be heard also.

A spring night’s darkest hour shoreline reeds are full of life. Moor frogs are everywhere, sedge warblers sing actively and Eurasian Bittern make it’s horn like sound. At close range you can hear how bittern inhales couple times before horn.

Perfect woodpecker forest in sunny april morning. Woodpeckers love deciduous forests with lots of old dead wood. It’s perfect place to drum and dig juicy caterpillars under the tree bark. Background noise comes from flooding spring creek.

At sunrise crane couple announce their territory by singing duet together. The swans make noise in the lake and flock of western jackdaws do chat in the branches of tree. Eurasian bittern fog-horn sound can be heard from shoreline reeds.

Early may morning in deciduous forest. Birds sing very actively and bumble-bees collect nectar from spring flowers. Spring time at its best.

Hundreds of ravens gather togerther to spent night an island. They make this journey every day in large flocks. Recording was made in the evening, about hour before sun set, when ravens are arriving to their night trees.
