David made a promise to Jonathan to always look after his family. When Jonathan dies and David becomes king only one descendent of Jonathan remains. David shows kindness to Mephibosheth and invites him to his table. This story is a reminder to us that although we were at one time an enemy of God, He invites us to His table to have relationship with Him.
