In recent days a new controversy popped up regarding the nature of hell. Does God consign an unbeliever to an eternity of suffering or does He do this for an ordained amount of time and then the person is simply destroyed in totality? Many opinions are happening online and yet not a lot of helpful teaching. This is the beginning of a short series to remedy this.

Paul finds himself in trouble yet again because of the gospel. This time he is taken to the formal court of Athens to be judged by the leading religious philosophers regarding this new teaching they think they hear. How will Paul respond? Paul had to flee Berea due to unbelieving Jews who came over from Thessalonica to denounce and attack him. The result is that he finds himself in Athens, Greece alone. Here we find this man of God faced with an overtly pagan world and we see how it affects him at the deepest levels of his soul.

In the story of Paul in Thessalonica we have a beautiful example of how to lead a person to Jesus Christ. This is often a genuine struggle by people who know and love the gospel. In this sermon we consider several simple steps to keep in mind as we try to share the gospel.

We see the third story of the events surrounding Paul and Silas's missionary journey into Europe. Here we see the beating and jailing of these two men and then their release. But in and through all of this is the hand of God working out His perfect, yet mysterious will to save sinners.

We continue following Paul and his companions as they begin to bring the gospel into Europe. In this sermon we see them come into contact with demonic forces and how, through the power and authority of Jesus, they overcome.

Paul, having had a vision to come to Macedonia, travels over sea and land to arrive in this key city. There we find him encounter a group of women and we see the saving hand of God in the life of one named Lydia. But in all of this we also can see how God sovereignly moves in and through human history and human hearts to bring about His purposes throughout the ages.

This passage shows the preparation and beginnings of the second missionary journey of Paul. This time with a different set of companions but with the same goal in mind–to plant churches and strengthen those that exist. And in this passage we see the mission of God continue and the heart of a true pastor.

The Jerusalem Council is finished and the with the final decisions and letter written, Paul and Barnabas return to Antioch to give them the results. Preparations are then made to go on another evangelistic journey but this time with a new companion for Paul. And in all of this we see how God continues to press forward with His purposes even when we don't understand all of the reasons why.

The major question of whether the Gentile believer is under the Law of Moses for either salvation or as a rule of life has been resolved with a resounding "no." James now gives direction and encouragement to both the Jewish believers as well as to the Gentile churches. And in doing so, James points both groups to the glory of God's plan of redemption and restoration.
