A bunch of textures on this tape - Tape 15. I started this audio journal approach with the 4 track, where I'd just number and date tapes, and let the sounds flow. Link to the post.

A lot of pieces like this where I abused varispeed to get to a tempo I couldn't quite reach. It's fun to pull these out, align them on a grid in Ableton, and lay the drums I remember WISHING I had the ability to program and line up on tape. Link to the post.

1995 4 tracking again, and again I have no recollection of where/why for this one. My friend Craig perma-loaned me a full size keyboard with a bunch of preset sounds and rhythm patterns, and occasionally I hear it's drum machine creep in. Link to the post.

1995 4 tracking with a little help from Ableton. I have no recollection of where/why for this one, but I have this sanitized memory of my 20s sounding like this: endless afternoons of noodly overdubbing guitars, working my way intuitively towards something that works. And I had to have harmonics in everything. Link to the post.

More 4 tracking - this is from 1995. My first little movie soundtrack for my brother's short "The Loner". Wow isn't that the sound of loneliness?! I had a Dearmond phase pedal that let you control the speed of the phase with a rocker, like you see on a volume or wah wah - that's the backwards sound you here. Link to the post.

On break to focus on the Medicine Hat record and practices. Here's sound and an image from this time last year. Link to the post.

I'm transferring all of my 4 track cassettes from 30 years ago. This is still 1995: I was inspired by marijuana and Yamasuka Eye to do something vocal with just the sound of my breath. Another 4 track thing from my archives. Link to the post.

More 4 track things from 30 years ago. I recorded tons of collages like this, trusting that I'd be able to find something dreamlike in there. Link to the post.

More 4 track things from 30 years ago. My brother started making short movies in high school, and this would eventually be the theme for More Guitar, the plot of which I'm still not sure I can summarize. I like how it sounds varispeed though - this would later get a mariachi feel after I enlisted friends to render the melody with trumpets and trombone. Link to the post.

1995, four tracks on a cassette. Throwing all the exotica I had in the house at this tiny motif - melodica, varispeed guitaras, harmonics for percussion. Link to the post.

Medicine Hat practice tonight - the groove in Empty is coming together. Link to the post.

2009, July 26 - improvised on the patio behind Louise's place in Mesa. We called it "Deebug studios" on my Alkaline album, because one of her many nicknames was Deebug. Link to the post.
