Mike and Vonia Can't Not

Mike and Vonia were in the same city at the same time! Vonia went to a waterpark with the family, and Mike stayed at a hotel. Vonia is in her hometown with her family, and Mike got back from Fire Island! Then it's a series on Netflix, a book about race and inequality, the stifling summer heat, dealing with children, pesky fireworks, more Fire Island talk, remembering Doreen Montalvo, and random talk about water fountains. Look at the fireworks! (Please cut it out with the fireworks)  

Mike heads to an island he hasn't been to in years and Vonia can't stop eating and cursing. Then it's talk of the quirky King's, a beautiful food doc series on Netflix, and the last Sunday in June. How did you celebrate this year? 

One of Vonia's kids had a swing set mishap, and Mike talks about television and grocery store sushi. Then it's the two shows Mike is most digging right now, the highs and lows of theatre camp, more talk of streaming platforms, naughty movie moments, and things you should ever feed a dog. Chocolate, garlic, and grapes. We'll just go ahead and tell you here and now.

Mike got a new phone, and Vonia's children have begun summer activities. Then it's a new comedy series, a movie musical, an update on passports for kids, restaurants in NYC, more movie musical talk, feelings on Golden Globes, and a fairly disgusting story from Mike. Also, Grease 2!

Vonia has house guests, Mike has an update on his Mom, and they both have fun plans in the future! Then it's Zach Galafianikis, laughter, Samantha Bee, Rita Moreno, memories of vacations past, and Broadway tickets already purchased. Hey. Remember sponge painting?!

Mike and Vonia share all the fun they had during his recent trip to L.A. Then it's a new book from Oprah, West Coast Mexican food, Emmas both Stone and Thompson, the need to be informed about how indigenous people have been treated both in this country and others, dumb commercials, phone problems, and past trips to California. Also, cats and ducks!

Vonia and Mike start off by talking about one of their favorite performers of stage and screen, before Vonia tells a crazy story about a painter she almost hired, and Mike talks about a recent visit from a friend. Vonia celebrated Mother's Day, and Mike forgot to celebrate a New York milestone. Then it's a very special talk show moment, a one man show, a play from a few years ago, a series happening right now, a sudden illness, barely controlled annoyance, and both Mike and Vonia sing songs they wrote as children! Very special indeed. 

Vonia got to see some friends, and Mike is dealing with the term "tired." Then there's art, a new limited series, children's shenanigans, a visit to a store where nothing was purchased, a few more notes on this years Oscars, and a new thing that's keeping Vonia feeling good. Roll on!  

It's Mike and Vonia's (somewhat) super-sized episode all about this years Oscar ceremony. From the lack of an opening number, film clips, and musical performances, to wacky commercials, great speeches, and that odd choice of presentation order, they have every moment covered, and lots of opinions. 

Vonia has a two part story about camping, and Mike saw all the Academy Award nominated short films. Plus, both hope and anxiety over the world reopening, three very different films that Mike loved this week, RuPaul's Drag Race and Master Class, feelings on "bitchiness," and a contribution to our collective lexicon. Also, caring is cool. 

Mike keeps taking it dark and Vonia keeps saving the day. The terrible, but perhaps inevitable, happened to Mike at work, but he lives to tell the tale. Then it's a trip to the zoo, Daniel Kaluuya hosting SNL, a further discussion on the current state of restaurants in NYC, worries about raising children, and some talk about the recent SAG Awards. Look both ways. Maybe a few times.

Mike got his second dose, and Vonia is still off the sauce! Then Vonia shares a streaming service she's enjoying, Mike sings the praises of Rachel McAdams, they discuss a movie one of them loved as a teen that may not have aged so well, they agonize over cults, Mike talks about a vacation he can't decide if he'd enjoy, Vonia shares an amazing Apple Watch hack, and Mike ends with a dumb story about...

Vonia and Mike take a moment to acknowledge the tragic events from the last few weeks before getting into bad commutes in New York, accomplishments Vonia has made in spite of the pandemic, meditation, an Oscar contender, a Sorkin drama from a several years back, crossword frustrations, a new chair, exercise, and an hilarious story from Vonia's past. Let's all do the worm! 

Vonia's parents are visiting, and Mike fell down! Vonia talks about the company she started over a year ago that is slowly getting back on its feet, and Mike talks about a CBS drama he's (mostly) enjoying. Then it's a conversation about social media, how our actions and words can affect other people even without bad intentions, lot's of Awards updates, and a couple of truly random facts. Grebes! 

This one gets a little random. After a conversation about Holiday music, Vonia and Mike talk about the week, a mini series Mike is watching, and movie that Vonia loved, which leads to discussion of the titular "Goddess." Then it's a lot about the Royals, a remembrance of their first days in New York City, a bit about humming and pastry, with a tiny stop over in Vegas.

Mike and Vonia do a recap of the week, including Mike's reaction to the first vaccine dose! Then it's more about people and experiences for both the things they're digging and things they could do without, a conversation about last weeks Golden Globes ceremony, and ending in a crazy Hollywood connection via Mike's Mom. 

Mike and Vonia start out with an update on moving, and a new harrowing Sunday walk. They talk about a comedy series that recently wrapped up, two new movies available to stream, and some human struggles being made more difficult by our current circumstances, including a deep dive into mental health. It get's heavy, but there is light.

This one does start off with Vonia revisiting a very very recent trauma, but after that, she and Mike talk about a few different series, a certain Oscar contender, kids going back to school, the passing of a great actor, a love quiz, and more information on Jerry the Donkey!

Vonia moved and Mike got swabbed. Then Vonia talks the glories of suburbia, and Mike tries to use the new Britney doc and a mini series about Comey to make some kind of point about truth. After that, they cover childhood movies, and an iPhone life hack, plus after the credits the swabbing story continues and takes some unexpected turns. Trust me. Listen.

One of them is moving, and one of them had water pouring through their ceiling last weekend! Then it's The Dig on Netflix, Wanda/Vision on Disney+, and Ted Lasso on Apple TV. (So many platforms to pay for!) After that, Vonia reads from a list of inspirations that she finds to be entirely irritating, and Mike shares what he thinks may be the most important fact ever.

Mike and Vonia talk about the past week, including Mike's new musical instrument. Then it's the new White House Press Secretary, a movie streaming on Amazon, the cold weather, being indecisive, what sparked their mutual love of theatre, child upkeep, and the random fact about Mike that may need to be studied by scientists.
