Mental Floss's DJ Mixes

I had reservation using the word "psychedelic" but the mix has a certain spacious and trippyness to it, with some tracks having subtle nuances to them. But I'm quite happy with how this turned out, and all the music used were songs I had never mixed before.

I'm very happy with this mix of techno. Spent some time sorting out the track order before hand and it helped with the flow.

This week: All guitars, no techno. I put many hours gathering this mix of "independent rock" together, digging into what I've collected the past number of years. Melody heavy!

Put together a mix of some of the music I've recently obtained, mostly of the house/disco and techno veins.

Here's something to lay back and listen to, maybe in a hammock on a beach somewhere. I hoped to combine some house/electronica like a long story moving between different feels.

Here's a mix that's a genre journey starting in fun disco house and then shifting later to drum'n'bass of the atmospheric/dark/funky/jazzy kinds.

Here's a collection of some drum'n'bass that sometimes plays around with your sense of timing and where the bar is supposed to begin.

Here's some technohouse, which at times can feel like your being lightly tossed about like waves made of foam.

Much of this sounded like minimal house and techno played in a large spaces with a consuming reverb.

Here's a electronic-sounding techno and house mix that's more on the dub techno side, and when dubby it sometimes feels like it's beneath water. It flirts with house at times with grand string.

Here's some fun music along the lines of house and techno and "electronica". It may get harder and sometimes darker but the fun kind.

I made this mix after I had been watching some videos of Jeff Mills performing, and I think his driving sound influenced me a bit. A good mix of techno and house.

I thought this would be an apt title for an Easter drum'n'bass mix, borrowing from the 90's hiphop track *One for the Choppa*. The beginning is melodic and then it gets a bit darker, but all of it with funk.

I resolved to make a mix with some of my "older" favourites. As of late I'd been pushing myself to use newer tracks but decided I'd embrace everything that "just worked" whether it felt played out or not. Also I think the online streaming quality is much nicer for this mix.

Here's a mix of music by Rene Wise. I recently obtained a bunch of his music and I dug his sound/feel so I decided to do a continuous mix of a selection. The entire thing almost sounds like one long song. A friend described this mix as giving him the feeling he should be in a dark room with a single laser; I kinda agree.

A mix of melodic drum'n'bass to get into your head with some upbeat riffs and happy vibes. Uhm, except for the last few tracks. My dark side kinda peeked through.

Here's a variety of house ranging from disco to deep to techy. As the name suggests, it'll get your foot tapping at your desk or maybe even have your own little dance party wherever you are. I hope you feel it.

Here's a mix I can definitely say is a bit of a journey as it starts with nice melody, moves to funk and then rides some rolling techno. I didn't have a plan when I started mixing so I ended up in a different place than I originally intended, but the segues worked. Enjoy the listen.

A mix of some new dnb I discovered plus a few old ones. Subwoofer or headphones help with the low bass, which is sometimes the focus of the music.
