Joseph is the 11th of 12 sons of Jacob, but the first born to Jacob’s favorite wife Rachel. Joseph is given special status by his father which makes his brothers despise him. This week we will look at the tension of having the favor of the Father and the opposition it attracts.

Shipwrecked on the island of Malta, the Apostle Paul could have abandoned his mission. But as we’ll see, not even a bite from a poisonous snake could break his resolve. Paul kept his eyes fixed on Jesus and we are called to do the same. This week we will discuss how to stay focused on wrecking the roof when distractions come, no matter how serious they are.

As the early Church was forming, a dispute broke out because a certain group of people were being neglected. The Apostles had the congregation choose seven men to be official servants, or deacons, of the church. When followers of Jesus work together as a unified people, something significant happens. Acts chapter 10 details a vision that God gave Peter showing the boundary between Jews and Gentiles was coming to an end. Promptly he traveled to the home of a Roman centurion named Cornelius. After hearing the Good News of Jesus, Cornelius, his family, and closest friends were all filled with the Holy Spirit. The week we’ll unpack how wrecking the roof sometimes means tearing down dividing walls.

Without being told why, Philip obeyed the command of the LORD to travel south towards Gaza. Along the way, he encountered an Ethiopian eunuch reading from the book of Isaiah. Church history tells us that this brief meeting is likely what started the Christian movement in Africa. This week we will learn how to identify and lean into the people around us who need help getting to Jesus.

Paul closes this letter out by greeting those who were closest to him. He had developed close and lasting friendships that helped to sustain him in his walk with the Lord. His final words leave his friends with love and encouragement. This week we reflect on the eternal impact of Christian community.

After describing to Timothy how men of the Word live, Paul goes on to detail how men without the Word approach life. They are “lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive” and more. He warns Timothy that this style of living will become more and more prevalent, but that Truth will win out in the end. Paul encouraged Timothy to run away from temptations and to run towards righteousness. To flee and pursue. Timothy is also instructed to be kind and gentle to those who oppose him, so that the Lord may grant them repentance leading them to salvation. This week we dig deeper into what it looks like to be men of the word.

Paul urges Timothy not to argue over unimportant, foolish things. He warns that such disagreements can cause confusion, division, and spiritual harm. He challenges Timothy to rightly handle the word of truth as an approved worker for God. This week we will discuss how we too can be useful vessels for God.
