Delvaille H. Theard spent ten years in asylums after his first appearance at the US Supreme Court in 1936. When he recovered and returned to practicing law, the Louisiana Bar disbarred him. Conley v. Ballinger and Conklin v. Conklin / Augusta Chronicle are the three Supreme Court cases where women represented themselves 'pro se' / 'pro per'. Conley was a lawyer protecting her tribe's cemetery in 1910. Conklin was a writer without legal training who contested her divorce and a newspaper reporting on that divorce in 1920.
