If God started with the Old Testament, so why shouldn't we? Though Jesus didn't come along for thousands of years, God was pointing to Him from the very beginning. He was painting a visible picture so we could understand what was to come.

For the sake of unity and peace, God wants us to give preference to others. It's not that we are unimportant. We're all equally valuable in the eyes of God. But by treating others like they are more important, we are taking the focus off of ourselves and putting it on them.

We can't manipulate, coerce, or force God to do what we want, and we shouldn't want to. He knows what's best. So, ask Him. Then, work in cooperation with Him to bring about the outcome that He desires.

Just because something seems right to us, it doesn't mean that it is. God determines what is good and right so we need to check with Him before we just decide we are doing the right thing. If it goes against any of God’s commands, then it’s obviously not what we should be doing.

In and of themselves, the person God calls us to follow may not be worthy of our full faith. But, if they're selected and led by the Lord, then by following them, we are not trusting in their ability, but God's. This is much easier! When I remember that this is the way God set things up and that I'm really trusting God and not a man, then I am much less resistant because He is perfect and powerful...

You can't change yourself or be better in your own power, so stop trying. This year, let your resolution be to commit your life to Him and feed His Spirit within you so that He can produce good fruit. Let God change you from the inside out. Then, you will truly be changed and it will be much more effortless than trying to do it yourself and failing along the way.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." This is so hard and what does it mean? Have you ever met someone that's great at their job but their homelife is a mess? Whether this is a friend or it's you, it's hard to understand how this happens. Often we struggle on our own or look to human help, but God has all the power and knowledge and He loves us beyond measure. So, why don't we take our problems to Him and leave them there. In Him we find power, peace, and hope.

I do not know why God doesn't prevent or fix our need and pain. But I know that it's not because He doesn't love us, or have enough knowledge or power, or because He isn't good.

Jesus paid the price for our souls. But unless we accept the sacrifice He made on our behalf, it is useless to us. Accept Jesus today!

Though my kids are grown now, I haven't forgotten the struggles of being a young mom. The joys are endless, and wonderful, and every age and stage are great for many reasons. I'm sure I've written about the joys of motherhood before and I'm sure I will again, but that's not what I'm thinking about today.
