What exactly does Jesus is the Son of God mean? Does is just mean biological descendent?

Matthew chapter 1 shares the genealogy of Jesus including some complicated, scandalous history. Jesus was truly human. God is in the midst of the mess of humanity.

What is the virgin birth about? Why is it important that Jesus was born of a virgin?

This Advent, we will focus on the mystery of incarnation. Prophets called the child Son of God, Son of man, Immanuel, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. What child is this? Today we focus on child of promise and the biblical prophecies.

This week is Thanksgiving, when we remember to live in gratitude. How can we let go of grumbling?

Almost every one of us struggles with worry. How can we let worry go?

Sometimes when we are hurt we decide that the way to avoid pain in the future is to make a vow--commitment to self-defense (in some way) instead of a commitment to trusting God.

Shame is deeply corrosive. How can we release shame so that it no longer has a hold on us?

Hurts are real, and need healing. Injustice is real, and should be set right. Resentment does not lead to healing nor to justice. Resentment just holds on to the hurt so we are living in it. How can we let go?

We live so much of our lives for ourselves—our careers, our family, our schedule, ourselves. God invites us to let go of ourselves to take hold of something bigger.

Fear can be healthy when it is a reasonable response to a real danger. Fear is unhealthy when it is an unreasonable response, or a response to an unreal danger. Fear can paralyze us. How can we let go of unhealthy fear so that we are not controlled by it?

Have you heard words that feel like that from other people, and somehow they echo within you days, weeks, even years or decades after they were carelessly spoken? This is self-condemnation. Some of us deal with self-condemnation as an ongoing struggle and today I’d like to explore how we can let go.

What comes first in your life? What is truly most important to you? How can we find space for God?

Good things take intentionality over time. Very few people are accidentally successful, accidentally educated, accidentally Olympic athletes. These things take effort and practice. It takes effort and practice to grow spiritually--intentionality over time.

Are we listening? Do we recognize God's voice in our lives?

What does your life tell the world about God?

On our bad days, even our worst days, how can we look past the problems? The problems are real. Some things are annoying and others truly grieve our spirits…but can we also look past the issue to see the beauty?

If you are in any friendship, any family, any business, any church—where two or more are gathered, long enough, there will be disagreements. In this message, we look at the early church's first major conflict and learn how to resolve conflict in our own lives.

When the people of God are aligned with the grace of God, it always propels them outward, further toward those who do not yet know this incredibly Good News.

Our personal values, history, experiences, and past hurts become the lens through which we see the world, like a pair of contacts over our eyes. From time to time our prescription might be off, more like cataracts than contacts, and we need to look twice.

What is your story of coming to faith? Your story may be less dramatic than Saul's story -- no blinding light, or the voice of Jesus--but every story matters.

What are you truly seeking? What are you holding on to or chasing after?

Some people disbelieve in or basically ignore the spiritual realm, but here’s the thing: the spiritual realm can affect us whether or not we believe in it.

People suffer. Christians suffer. Following God does not take away our suffering—look at Jesus, look at Paul, look at, well, anyone. Everyone suffers…but we believers suffer differently.
