Welcome to our summer project: one episode per chapter of Sally Rooney’s critically praised but widely disliked novel, Intermezzo. In this episode we tackle what’s going on with this guy Peter and his narration. Please trust us, even though it seems chaotic, Rooney is in complete control—she’s just making us work for it! It’s summer break and we’ve found our flow state for the final installment of The Coin. We are resisting our urge to ask but what does it all mean? and leaning heavily into an absurdist reading of this text. Hear us out!!

Despite the visceral horrors, things get heady as Hannah and Kathryn get into the conclusion of The Guest. And it’s obliteration time, baby! If this were a Spielberg movie, the score would be going crazy. We’ve got molly, sparkly saltwater scrapes, folie a deux, a stray black dog (uh oh), distorted reflections, the end of the pills, and yes, the Labor Day party at last. 

Welcome back for Chapters 4-8 of The Guest. It is NOT gonna be a chill time. Alex is really scrambling to get her basic needs met at this point, but she still manages to deliver a weird and honestly quite disconcerting episode of Summer House as she spirals out of control. And there are more swimming pools!! You KNOW we have a lot to say about it.
