In this passage, we'll focus on Jonah and Ninevah's past disobedience, a  present  second chance, and a  future  change.  Specifically, we'll see how these events are representative of our saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

When we think about Jonah, we inevitably think about the fish. Although the fish is only mentioned in two verses, it dominates a large part of the story and our perceptions of Jonah. However, the fish is not the primary character.  It is instead a vehicle for the truth that God shows mercy to Jonah where he deserved judgment. As we continue in the book of Jonah this morning, we'll see Jonah’s interaction with the sailors on the boat headed to Tarshish. This story displays the  justice and mercy of God at work and reminds us that God uses every circumstance in our lives for our good and for His Glory.

Today we begin our series in Jonah. What is the theme and message of this book? How can a story about a story about a Jewish prophet who lived 2800 years ago be relevant to our time?  In this series, we'll learn what the book of Jonah can teach us about the nature of God, the problem of sin, and our hope for redemption.

As we study this passage, we’ll see the beauty of the gospel, the grace of Jesus in forgiveness, and be empowered to share the faith that we have received.

Do we know what it means to be a follower of Jesus? Are we missing the point? Today, we look at the story of a blind beggar who is a portrait of discipleship. 

Today we conclude our Entrusted series in 1 Timothy. The Church is in a spiritual war; therefore, its members must fight for the truth of the Gospel .   It's important to remember that as believers, we do not fight FOR victory but FROM victory. 

We’ll see today how Paul closes out his section on honor, and how he once again addresses the false teachers and teachings in Ephesus. Along the way, he gives instruction to Timothy and the church on how they can best live a life of godliness and contentment, considering the gospel, which will protect them from unnecessary hurt and eventual destruction.

Paul’s concern in these verses is for the church to appropriately honor and care for faithful leaders.   Pastor/Elders who teach faithfully, live righteously, and shepherd wisely are worthy of honor in the church.

What is the goal of the Christian life? In these verses, Paul teaches that it is the total transformation of the heart, mind, body, and soul through the power of the gospel. A life transformed by the gospel of Jesus is made evident in our holiness and hopefulness.

As we enter Chapter 4 of 1 Timothy, Paul warns against the dangers of false teachers.  Thankfully, we can be confident that the Holy Spirit and the Word of God instruct us in the truth and protect us from falsehood.

The Great Commission calls all disciples of Jesus to follow him on his mission to all people and nations on the earth with the good news of the gospel. As we study Acts 1:6-11, we recognize that we too—as followers of Christ some 2000 years later—have a part to play in fulfilling the Great Commission. The work is not done.

There are a lot of churches doing a lot of things. Good things. Helpful things. Meaningful things. But what is the essential thing a church is supposed to do? In Chapter 2, the Apostle Paul moves from giving instruction to Timothy, to giving instruction to the entire church. In these verses, we can see both God’s plan for his people, the church, and his purpose for their existence.
