On Tuesday the Grass Valley Planning Committee heard a presentation regarding the remodeling of a former senior care home. The new owners, Foothill House of Hospitality, intend to add 10 more units to the building to better serve Nevada County's unhoused population.

On Thursday the Board of Supervisors of Nevada County voted unanimously to deny Rise Grass Valley’s petition for recognition of vested rights to conduct mining operations at the Idaho Maryland Mine. Cláudio Mendonça was there and spoke with both Ed Scofield, District 2 supervisor and chair of the meeting, and Joseph Mullin, recently appointed President and CEO of Rise Gold.

Rise Grass Valley sent the Board a letter asking that District 1 Supervisor, Heidi Hall, recuse herself from the proceeding. She respectfully declines. Both sides stated their case, public comment was heard, and the meeting was continued to Thursday, December 14th when the Board is expected to make a decision.

The Board of Supervisors of Nevada County will hold a special meeting today to consider Rise Grass Valley’s Vested Rights Petition regarding the Idaho-Maryland Mine. The Big Jack East Targeted Grazing Project seeks public comment. Comments will be accepted until January 5th, 2024, and can be submitted to: comments-pacificsouthwest-tahoe-truckee@usda.gov

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting tomorrow, December 13th, where they will hear presentations from both the Planning Department staff and Rise Grass Valley. The public will also have an opportunity to weigh-in. 

On Saturday, December 11th, at noon, hundreds and hundreds of motorcycles left the Rood Center to ride through Nevada City and Grass Valley before delivering toys to Nevada County families waiting at the fairgrounds. Cláudio Mendonça was there and spoke with event organizer, Eric Oliver.

Effective at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 8th, CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit Chief, Brian Estes formally canceled the residential burn suspension that was imposed this summer. Residents may now burn on permissible burn days but are advised to contact their local air districts before burning.

ProjectGo is a nonprofit organization that was was founded in 1978 to offer energy conservation assistance to low-income residents. They're currently offering help to those in need through their Weatherization Assistance Program and their Home Energy Assistance Program. The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County is looking for volunteers to join their board of directors. Cláudio recently sat down with vice chair Steve Eubanks to learn the details.
