Other people, and even our inner voices, can make us feel like we're not good enough. We can feel that we've let down others, ourselves and even God. What do we do with those kinds of thoughts? How can Jesus help?

Many of us struggle with decisions in life. It could the big issues and changes, or simple everyday choices. To not know what to do can be difficult and stressful, but it's just part of our limitations as human beings. How can faith in Jesus, who was more than human, make a difference and help us with our decision making?

We all have times when we feel we can’t cope - some of us rarely and some of us frequently. How do we handle these situations? Does faith in God make any difference?

The narrative of Jesus’ birth in Matthew’s gospel opens with a genealogy - a really long list of names. Why does such an amazing account start in such an unengaging way? These verses are often ignored or skimmed through to get to the ‘good stuff’. But in doing so we miss out on some crucial things Matthew wants us to know about Jesus.

For our advent series we take a look at Mary the mother of Jesus, focusing on her Song the ‘Magnificat’, and her surrender to God. 

Advent is traditionally the time over four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day – a period of expectant waiting, nowadays often with chocolate filled calendars. But what’s the point of waiting when we know the end of the story? In fact, waiting was a very, very, very big part of the whole story.

As Christians, how and when does Jesus expect me to speak up for him? Many of us feel too afraid; many of us want to do it better. This verse tells us that all of us can have the privilege of saying something to people about Jesus, that will help them

Sharing what we’ve found in Jesus with other people can feel like a scary thing to do, but what if this could be done in a really natural and normal way? John 1: 43-51 provides us with some inspiration towards gently helping people to see Jesus for themselves.

As followers of Jesus we can ‘shine and sow’ in many different ways. Discover in the story of The Lame Man from Acts chapter 3, an important principle about shining through choosing to freely give.

Many Christians know they should be telling others about Jesus, but feel inadequate to do so. They worry about what people will think or about getting it wrong, and often have mental list of all the times it ‘didn’t work.’ But what if we’ve missed the main point all along?

What we say matters, if we want to share the good news of Jesus with others; our life matters too. How can we live as Christians in such a way that it will have a positive impact on other people and draw them to Jesus?

One of Jesus’ final instructions to his followers was to go and make more followers. Most Christians know they are supposed to be doing this, but many find it hard to how exactly how to do it. Fortunately, Jesus also left two very helpful metaphors to encourage and equip us.

Jesus spoke about the cost of being one of his disciples and the suffering we need to know it will involve. Was he trying to put people off? Why is it still worth following Jesus?

Luke looked at a story from the Old Testament where God's people took the presence of God for granted. He challenges us to think about the authenticity of our worship belonging to God and our expectations for God to be with us and for us being rooted in faith rather than assumption.

Today we were baptising some new Christians in our church, as a sign of how Jesus has changed their lives. Why do we do this and what can we learn from the story of one of first baptisms recorded in Bible?

What does it look like to be a disciple of Jesus? How can I know if I’m doing well as a disciple? We discover that it all boils down to just two things - and if we keep our focus on them, we will both please God and flourish ourselves.

What did Jesus mean when he said ‘go and make disciples’? What exactly is a disciple, and what does ‘making’ one involve? Looking closer, we discover that all of Jesus’ followers are called to be disciples, and that is something we need to live out all day, every day.

This message looks at teaching from Jesus and the Apostle Paul on the subject of Singleness. Particularly looking at the Pain, the Pressures and the Potential in the single lifestyle. 

There are so many things which are important for children to learn at school, for us to pass on to the next generation. This morning we’re going think about something that we have a responsibility to get hold of and pass on to the next generation: even more important than times tables.

“Psalm 88 makes people uncomfortable. It confronts the ways we pray and the ways we think prayer must be done. It confronts all of the memories we have of dark and lonely nights in our own lives. It confronts the relationship we have with God. It confronts each of us with its truth stripped bare of any nice platitudes. It shines a bright light on the darkest places where the human soul wallows.” (...

From the story of Elijah in 1 Kings, we see the importance of Solitude and Silence in our maturing as followers of Jesus. 

How can I live a flourishing life? This psalm seems to set out a clear and straightforward approach. But we need to read it carefully, as it’s not quite as straightforward as it looks… 

From prison, John the Baptist sends his disciples to check he has not misunderstood Jesus and asks “are you the one?” Jesus response is that the kingdom that John has been waiting for has come,  but in an unexpected way. 

As we come to the end of the letter to the Colossian Christians, loving one another and working together for Jesus really comes into focus. What does this look like to put this into practice in our daily lives?

Paul reminds the church of the importance of prayer, continuing to be devoted to prayer, being watchful and with thanksgiving.
