Jesus made some pretty big claims for himself, including being able to dispel the oppressive darkness that blights our lives.  But why should we believe him?  Isn’t this just one of many valid ways of thinking about life and faith?

Who would you be happy to have a meal with? Jesus faced criticism for eating with and spending time with people who others rejected. How can following Jesus' example be a way of showing God's love and mercy to others? 

Jesus promises that fresh water will flow out from people who believe in him.  But what does this vivid metaphor actually mean? Who is he talking to and what does it look like in real life?

Why is Jesus so controversial? For someone who did so much good (helping, healing, feeding the hungry) it's surprising that everyone doesn't like him. Why are so many people confused about Jesus or even hate him?

Many people are looking for ‘something more’ to satisfy them in life.  Jesus promises to be that something more, but he does so using a bizarre and unpleasant metaphor.  What does he actually mean and why does he make it sound so unappealing?

The Gospel accounts of Jesus are full of impossible miracles.  Sometimes Christians see them as a template for what God will do right now, while other people find them utterly unbelievable.  So how should we handle these incredible accounts?

You might be feeling exciting, daunted or pretty neutral about the New Year.  But however you see it, Jesus has a new year challenge for us that comes with an amazing promise. It's not even just for new years but for any time at all!

As much as many people love him, do we really need Jesus? Why can’t we just go straight to God, regardless of whatever religious views we hold? Why would God make things harder than they already are for us to come to him?

The account of Jesus clearing the Temple courts is so the opposite of our cultural expectations of Jesus: Furious at the retail outlets filling the outer court he forcibly drives them out with a homemade whip and confronts the religious authorities with an outrageous challenge. What’s going on, and why?

In one of the strangest passages in the Gospels Jesus performs a very puzzling miracle: turning water into wine. It is possible to actually believe that he really did it? And why would he do such a thing if he could?

Jesus once said that the whole Old Testament was all about him, understanding himself as the fulfilment of every prophecy, picture and storyline. John's gospel begins right at the start and unveils a magnificent portrait of an utterly unexpected Messiah.
