Ke Alaka'i: The Podcast

This week we had the great Leeann Lambert on the podcast! Or as she’s known by those at the Ke Alaka’i Sister L. We talked about her 20 years in the journalism industry, lessons learned, and what aspiring journalists need to know as they go into the field. 

This week we talked about movies, in particular Money Ball! Bruno gives his review and some thoughts about sports movies as well

Trigger warning - this episode contains discussions about human trafficking and abuse. This week he had Chris Udall on the podcast! Chris is the CEO of rebuild for peace, and spoke at TEDxLaie 2020. He has traveled the world working for and founding different non profits, and aims to find ways put an end to human trafficking, and other illicit activities. 

This week on the podcast we talk with Christian Kunz, a social work professor, about the recent U.S. Presidential election, and how to bring people together instead of continuing to be divided. We talked about healing the country, as well as how the electoral college works.

On this episode we interviewed the great Bruno Maynez! We also introduced our new co-host McKenzie Connell. Bruno will be leaving the podcast after this semester and McKenzie will be taking over for him starting January! 

This week we talked to James Alan Walker, former president of the New Zealand Auckland Mission. We talked about what it was like serving as a mission president, the challenges, and the preparation that went into it. We also talked about what the COVID-19 lockdowns were like in New Zealand and how the mission managed it.

This week we had on Noah Shoaf, formerly of the Ke Alaka'i, and still the brilliant mind behind the Youtube channel Noah Takes Hawaii. We talk about travel, what it's like to run a youtube channel and goals for the future. 

This week we have the return of our former co-host Eli Hadley! Eli announced his decsion to serve a mission and shares with us where he is going, we all talked about what to expect, and how valuable missions are. Join us for this special episode of the Podcast!

This week we talk to former Ke Alaka'i editor and BYUH Alum Scott Boice! From working in sports media to his transition into the mental health field, we talk about sports, how to maintain your mental health, and the effects of the coronavirus on people and their mental health. 

This week we are joined by Haeley the editor in chief of the Ke Alaka'i! We talked about all of our starts here at the Ke Alaka'i, the new September issue of the magazine, and what Haeley's time at BYUH has been like! 

This week we welcome back longtime Ke Alaka'i writer Will Krueger who graduated from BYU–Hawaii in Fall 2019. We talked about his time working in New Zealand, what life after graduation has looked like and we touch on some books we've all been reading.
