KCSU LIVE In-Studio

Write Minded, a local hip-hop/reggae/rock group, came in for an in-studio performance a few weeks ago. They performed five songs from their upcoming EP “Pieces of Mind” and discussed the influences of their unique sound throughout the episode.

The six-member Cactus Cat crew joined me in the studio last week to share their love of surf-rock. They performed a combination of originals and covers throughout the set, and we discussed their intriguing band name and influences between songs.

Mitchell James brought some bars to the airwaves last week as he performed some tracks live from our studio. We discuss the challenges of being in a lyric driven genre, stigmas in rap, and more throughout the conversation. Mitchell debuts a new track called “Winter Pt. 2” about half way through his performance.  

Bryan, Will, Ryan, and Miguel of the indie rock band Dream Feed joined me in the studio a few weeks ago. Ghost Revue came down from Denver to perform some songs from their latest and upcoming albums. KCSU General Manager, Hannah Copeland, hosts a special in-studio session with The African Children’s Choir, a traveling group of Ugandan singers who tour throughout North America. Quirky local band, Dryer Fire, took time off from their busy appliance fixing schedule to play a handful of uniquely comical songs in the studio, such as “My Van,” and “Poo Pants Drunk.” Their interview with DJ TBD is similarly humorous, with all their answers being as wacky and silly as their songs.

Local band, Bitter Suns, stopped by the studio to perform some hard hitting, surf rock inspired punk jams. They talked with DJ TBD about musical and creativity authenticity, living life free of expectations, and the emotional importance of skateboarding.

Post Paradise members, Nick and Amy, stopped by the KCSU studio to perform some acoustic renditions of Post Paradise classics and to introduce some newer material. They discuss how the past year has been with touring and promoting their last album, as well as looking towards the future of the band and their creative possibilities.

Local punk band Plasma Canvas turned it up well past 11 in the KCSU studio, performing some of the loudest music these station walls have ever heard. They discussed song writing themes of identity, self love, and social activism.

Local band The Leshen stopped into the KCSU studio for a live in-studio session with DJ HenB on his show, “One Third Man.” They discussed the band’s unique “forest rock” sound and how they create completely insturmental, hard hitting jams with just two people.
