I reflect on the journey of becoming a father and what it was like adapting to having a new purpose in life. I discuss how the experience of having a home birth shaped my understanding of what the birthing experience is meant to look like.

I realise that I am the bottleneck in my own business and discuss the gaps in my leadership skills. One of the girls in our team is about to launch her business. 

How we adapted our approach to a new kind of business. We were forced into a position to build a real business. I reflect on the nature of working with family. We get the team aligned and things start running smoothly.

We close the cafe and reconsolidate into our original location on Hannan St and went back to the good ol' days. I reflect on Covid and the decisions we made in the peak of the chaos.

We move out of our shared location on Hannan St. I reflect on the changes in the dynamics of the move from the hole-in-the-wall model to the drive-through model.

I get to reminisce on the time leading up to launching Proper Gander Espresso. We sell our house and move into a friend's house for a few months while we look for a new home to buy. I lose my mining job, we launch Proper Gander and the wheels begin to turn.

The Proper Gander gains traction, and we move into our new home. We struggle with learning how to manage people. Bec excels, while I fail (but think I'm doing well). We learn about how we learnt to identify potential in the people who join our team.

We hit our targets really quickly, so we bought a cafe. We learn the hard way what building a business really means and we learn a lot of lessons on taking over a business. I come to terms that I am self-sabotaging and I am trying to find a psychologist to help me understand what I am doing to myself.

I reflect on our time in Melbourne, how it was formative to our marriage and how it planted the seed of passion for Hospitality which became what our business is today.

Bec and I return from our trip abroad, Bec falls pregnant while we don't have a home. We buy a house, I start working in mining and we begin the process of starting The Proper Gander Espresso.
